Dani Harris thought there wasnt much left that could surprise her after serving as a forensic psychiatrist in East Salem. And Tommy Gunderson has faced few challenges in his life that he couldnt overcome by either physical strength or his celebrity status.
But as they race to uncover whats really happening behind the high walls of St. Adrians Academy, it becomes clear that supernatural forces have been at work here for generations. And now their focus is on making sure Dani and Tommy dont interfere.
When the unseen becomes seen, faith is the only weapon strong enough to fight in a battle involving not just murder and betrayalbut angels and demons.Wiehls latest is a truly creepy story with supernatural undertones that seem eerily real. -Romantic Times review of Waking Hours

While Tommy and Dani continue to battle the evil that is now very apparent, Dani in a logical and scientific way, while Tommy employs his P.I. skills and his faith.
We met two new characters, Cassandra who is Tommy's ex-fiance and block-buster movie star, and Quinn, a brilliant chemist and a man Dani had once been involved with. We also get to find out who Charlie is.
I really enjoyed this book much better than the first one. The first book seemed very dark while this book was a little on the lighter side and gave hope. We got so see more of St. Adrian's Academy and got more information about the things going on inside its walls. The storyline actually flowed better than it did in the first book.
The battle between the angels and demons were epic.
This book delves into chemical warfare and as with the first book this one also has a lot of tech talk. Rather than use common terms for names of the drugs and what they do, they make the reader use a dictionary and a thesaurus just to understand what they are trying to say. Ill be honest I had a horrible time keeping up with what they were trying to say and then I felt cheated. Also as with the first book, while Tommy talk about his faith and in some ways expressed it, there was very little about God, Jesus or Salvation.
KatyTennesseeGender: female4 Stars Out Of 5Spiritual WarfareApril 29, 2014KatyTennesseeGender: femaleQuality: 4Value: 4Meets Expectations: 5I was eager to read this book, after finishing the first one in the East Salem Series. I was not disappointed and really enjoyed the story. The Bible tells us (Ephesians 6:12) "For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms." In this novel the author depicts ways in how that might be playing out.

The story picks up right where the first novel left off. The setting is still modern day and in the small town of East Salem. Most of the main characters return in this story and we are introduced to several new characters, who it seems will be appearing in the third installment as well, Final Tide, due to be released in September 2013.
Tommy and Dani's relationship is getting more serious, but can it survive when people from the past show up? Can Dani really trust Tommy to be honest with her? Unbeknownst to them, there is a third party involved who is trying to divide them and weaken their strength. Their strength is their united belief in Christ. Can they survive a betrayal from someone close to them? A variety of characters sporadically begin to be involved in Dani and Tommy's fight against evil. There is a British art historian, a Native American Indian from the "Midwest", an actress, a genius microbiologist who lend their knowledge to try and help find "the book" old Abbie Gardner has hid. The evil forces are also looking for the book in order to destroy it. One of these people is also the member of a secret society pledged to protect the book and fight for Christ against evil no matter what the cost. Abbie was the last guardian of the book. Who will be the guardian now that she has been killed? Who or what killed her? How is St. Adrian's Academy involved? Can this group who has pledged to fight evil stop these forces from enacting worldwide chaos and destruction?
I want to give you enough detail to intrigue and tantalize, but not so much as to take the place of reading the story. To read the story for yourself is the best enjoyment. This story will keep you glued to your seat and to the book! You won't be able to turn the pages fast enough to find out what confrontation is going to take place next. After finishing reading this one, you will wish it was September so you could start the third and final book in the series! Don't miss this one!
luv2readjenLisle, ILAge: 35-44Gender: female4 Stars Out Of 5Supernatural Warfare - Remniscent of PerettiDecember 14, 2012luv2readjenLisle, ILAge: 35-44Gender: femaleQuality: 4Value: 4Meets Expectations: 4The East Salem Trilogy is a great series (so far) with elements of mystery and supernatural embedded in an action-packed adventure. The books offer both a picture of evil and demons, but also the very real images of angels, who are part of the redemption story. Portions of the story bring to mind the Peretti novels This Present Darkness and Piercing the Darkness, in that there are towns that are experiencing a very definitive spiritual attack. However, the visions of Peretti and Wiehl differ and bring unique perspectives to similar concepts.
This particular book, which is the second in the series, focuses on a local private school in East Salem, New York, and how its benefactors and alum seem to be engaged in some nefarious activity - including murder. Demons are using the men who run the school to move forward with their agenda - and people who are either accidentally or purposefully engaged in thwarting that agenda are at risk and in danger. The main character of the series, Dani Harris is a forensic psychiatrist who is working with a few trusted people to understand the truth about the supernatural aspects, while at the same time working with the police to understand what is happening in the natural realm. The story is deep and engaging, and the spiritual warfare is powerful and realistic.
Lis Wiehl has a great ability to turn the amazing aspects of battles between good and evil into a very plausible real world story. I definitely enjoyed the first two books (I had to get the first one in the series myself once I realized this was part of a trilogy) and I cannot wait for the third. I want to see how everything falls together. Even though I know who wins, it's fun to speculate about the manner and means in which the actual war takes place.

Janet PEl Cajon, CA4 Stars Out Of 5Great book about Good vs EvilNovember 21, 2012Janet PEl Cajon, CAQuality: 4Value: 5Meets Expectations: 4Darkness Rising is book two of the East Salem Trilogy written by Lis Wiehl with Pete Nelson. Dani Harris is a forensic psychiatrist and Tommy Gunderson is her "assistant" who is also a former football player and minor celebrity. They previously solved a murder that was committed by a student at St. Adrian's Academy (school for boys) and return to the school to find out what's really happening there. Dani and Tommy soon discover there are supernatural forces at work at the school and the forces start working to prevent them from finding out the truth.I really enjoyed reading this book and liked the main characters and the story. Don't feel that you need to read the first novel in the series before starting this one.The storyline stands on its own and a lot of the characters' backgrounds and what happened previously is covered in this book. I would recommend this book to anyone that enjoys reading a good vs evil story. Looking forward to reading book three! Thanks to Thomas Nelson Publishers for the copy.
