Darkness Rising, East Salem Trilogy Series #2
I was eager to read this book, after finishing the first one in the East Salem Series. I was not disappointed and really enjoyed the story. The Bible tells us (Ephesians 6:12) âÂÂFor our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.â In this novel the author depicts ways in how that might be playing out.

Darkness Rising continues the dark journey begun in the first book, Waking Hours. The story picks up right where the first novel left off. The setting is still modern day and in the small town of East Salem. Most of the main characters return in this story and we are introduced to several new characters, who it seems will be appearing in the third installment as well, Final Tide, due to be released in September 2013.
Tommy and DaniâÂÂs relationship is getting more serious, but can it survive when people from the past show up? Can Dani really trust Tommy to be honest with her? Unbeknownst to them, there is a third party involved who is trying to divide them and weaken their strength. Their strength is their united belief in Christ. Can they survive a betrayal from someone close to them? A variety of characters sporadically begin to be involved in Dani and TommyâÂÂs fight against evil. There is a British art historian, a Native American Indian from the âÂÂMidwestâÂÂ, an actress, a genius microbiologist who lend their knowledge to try and help find âÂÂthe bookâ old Abbie Gardner has hid. The evil forces are also looking for the book in order to destroy it. One of these people is also the member of a secret society pledged to protect the book and fight for Christ against evil no matter what the cost. Abbie was the last guardian of the book. Who will be the guardian now that she has been killed? Who or what killed her? How is St. AdrianâÂÂs Academy involved? Can this group who has pledged to fight evil stop these forces from enacting worldwide chaos and destruction?
I want to give you enough detail to intrigue and tantalize, but not so much as to take the place of reading the story. To read the story for yourself is the best enjoyment. This story will keep you glued to your seat and to the book! You wonâÂÂt be able to turn the pages fast enough to find out what confrontation is going to take place next. After finishing reading this one, you will wish it was September so you could start the third and final book in the series! DonâÂÂt miss this one!

Supernatural Warfare - Remniscent of Peretti
The East Salem Trilogy is a great series (so far) with elements of mystery and supernatural embedded in an action-packed adventure. The books offer both a picture of evil and demons, but also the very real images of angels, who are part of the redemption story. Portions of the story bring to mind the Peretti novels This Present Darkness and Piercing the Darkness, in that there are towns that are experiencing a very definitive spiritual attack. However, the visions of Peretti and Wiehl differ and bring unique perspectives to similar concepts.
This particular book, which is the second in the series, focuses on a local private school in East Salem, New York, and how its benefactors and alum seem to be engaged in some nefarious activity â including murder. Demons are using the men who run the school to move forward with their agenda â and people who are either accidentally or purposefully engaged in thwarting that agenda are at risk and in danger. The main character of the series, Dani Harris is a forensic psychiatrist who is working with a few trusted people to understand the truth about the supernatural aspects, while at the same time working with the police to understand what is happening in the natural realm. The story is deep and engaging, and the spiritual warfare is powerful and realistic.
Lis Wiehl has a great ability to turn the amazing aspects of battles between good and evil into a very plausible real world story. I definitely enjoyed the first two books (I had to get the first one in the series myself once I realized this was part of a trilogy) and I cannot wait for the third. I want to see how everything falls together. Even though I know who wins, itâÂÂs fun to speculate about the manner and means in which the actual war takes place.
Disclosure of Material Connection: I received this book free from the publisher. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own. I am disclosing this in accordance with the Federal Trade CommissionâÂÂs 16 CFR, Part 255

Great book about Good vs Evil
Darkness Rising is book two of the East Salem Trilogy written by Lis Wiehl with Pete Nelson. Dani Harris is a forensic psychiatrist and Tommy Gunderson is her "assistant" who is also a former football player and minor celebrity. They previously solved a murder that was committed by a student at St. AdrianâÂÂs Academy (school for boys) and return to the school to find out what's really happening there. Dani and Tommy soon discover there are supernatural forces at work at the school and the forces start working to prevent them from finding out the truth.I really enjoyed reading this book and liked the main characters and the story. Don't feel that you need to read the first novel in the series before starting this one.The storyline stands on its own and a lot of the characters' backgrounds and what happened previously is covered in this book. I would recommend this book to anyone that enjoys reading a good vs evil story. Looking forward to reading book three! Thanks to Thomas Nelson Publishers for the copy.
