5 Stars Out Of 5
A great ending to a wonderful series
August 31, 2011
Dark Horse, the fourth and final book in Dandi Daley Mackall's Starlight Animal Rescue series, tells the story of Hank, the Coolidge's biological son. Hank loves all things horses, and is constantly rescuing as many as he can get his hands on. But when a tragic fire burns down their barn, Hank begins to question everything, even his ability to rescue horses; especially when one of their new rescues, a wild horse that got burned in the fire, won't let him get anywhere close. So when his cousin Catman Coolidge shows up with the rest of the Coolidge clan, and Winnie the Horse Gentler, to help save Starlight Animal Rescue, will Hank be able to put all of his anger and confusion behind him and put his trust in God that everything will work out?
I have to admit that I am incredibly sad to see this series end. I highly, highly enjoyed it. This series was my first experience reading any of Mackall's books, and I have got to say that she has made a fan out of me. I've always loved horse books, and I absolutely loved the different aspect that she included of animals being rescued. Not only that, but these books had some of the most loveable characters I've ever come across in teen fiction. So if you have an animal loving reader, I would highly recommend this series.
