In the steamy city of New Orleans in 1974, Amalise Catoir sees Phillip Sharp as a charming, magnetic artist, unlike any man she has known. A young lawyer herself, raised in a small town and on the brink of a career with a large firm, she is strong and successful, yet sometimes too trusting and whimsical. Ama's rash decision to marry Phillip proves to be a mistake as he becomes overly possessive, drawing his wife away from family, friends, and her faith. His insidious, dangerous behavior becomes her dark, inescapable secret.
In this lawyer's unraveling world, can grace survive Ama's fatal choice? What would you do when prayers seem to go unanswered, faith has slipped away, evil stalks, and you feel yourself forever dancing on shattered glass?
"With magnificent sense of place and impeccable timing, Pam Ewen crafts a chilling tale of manipulation and evil that's authentic and believable. Encourage your customers to write their names in this one . . . they'll want to pass it around."

RT Book Reviews
"Edgy, scary, riveting; Dancing on Glass by powerful Christian author Pamela Binnings Ewen compels the reader to keep turning the pages, hoping for a way out and answers to prayers."
Ewen takes the reader through two years of Amalise's relationship with Phillip, offering some perspective by switching to short accounts of Amalise's mother and best friend, Jude. As the relationship between Amalise and Phillip intensifies, Jude and everyone else in her life are shut out. Amalise's fear becomes the reader's fear as they gradually detect Phillip's concealed maliciousness. She finally realizes how dangerous he is during a scene in which, after drinking heavily, he beats her for coming home too late.
Though Amalise comes to see that Phillip is not what he first let on to be, she cannot help but pity him and convince herself that he needs her. She dismisses his lies and makes excuses for him, all the while persuading herself that this is what God wants. As the story continues, she realizes what a mess she has caused but resists disclosing her secrets, thinking she must handle the situation alone.
Amalise, a young lawyer working toward a steady position at a large firm, is very forgiving and naive, unable to resist trying to fix broken people. Phillip Sharp is an artist who lives like a leech, sucking the life out of women until they are completely his servants. Jude has been Amalise's best friend since childhood and, though he would do anything for Amalise, he is not sure how to protect her from the mysterious Phillip Sharp.
Dancing on Glass is very encouraging and designed to lead women to put their trust in God. I thought that the beginning was a bit unrealistic, but the fear and struggle of Amalise's marriage was very convincing and haunting. I recommend this book to women, particularly those struggling with domestic violence. Tara Gnagy, www.ChristianBookPreviews.com

She meets Phillip, who is employed at the campus in the art department. Phillip, a dark and disturbing type whose interpretation of life is found within his paintings is immediately entraced by Amalise wanting to know everything about her. Her best friend Jude, a bar pilot at Pilottown has always looked out for Amalise since they were young. After meeting Phillip, Jude becomes concerned about her when she is with Phillip. As the relationship evolves between Amalise and Phillip she becomes a prisoner in his world. He is a very controlling type personality who does as he pleases but restricts her from everything and everyone she loves. The determination that Amalise has for their relationship may cost her everything that she has worked so hard for.
I was drawn to this book from the beginning chapter and it held my interest until the end. Quite impossible to put down, very well written. Excellent character development, I was able to connect with them and their story very quickly. Highly entertaining, this was a very suspenseful read and kept me guessing right up to the ending. I would highly recommend this book!!! Thank you to B&H Publishing Group and Netgalley for the ARC for my review.
AbbieTexasAge: 25-34Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5A 1970's Romance/suspenceApril 18, 2011AbbieTexasAge: 25-34Gender: femaleSet in the historic city of New Orleans in the 70's this story of love, obsessions, attempted murder, betrayal and restoration keeps the reader on the edge of their seats. Strong willed and determined Amalis Catoir is studying law and working at a cafe downtown at night. Her loving parents worry constantly about her and have asked a childhood friend named Jude to watch over her when he is in the city between his job on the water. On her way to work one rainy night Amalise finds herself in a local art studio looking at the paintings. She had no way of knowing that this stop by the studio would change her life forever and would set her on a terrifying road. It is there that she meets Phillip Sharp, a man that has an almost electric pull on Amalise. Before she fully understands her decisions she finds herself seduced by this man. This story had my stomach in knots as it revealed the sadistic evil character of Phillip Sharp and his manipulative ways. I found myself almost angry that Amalise could not see the warning signs and did not flee the impending danger - I then found myself sick at the thought the possible endings. This is an excellent story and now I am interested in reading the previous novels by this author.

No, it wasn't that it wasn't poorly written or anything like that. It is just that I am not one for these kind of books.
The characters were good and the writing was very notable. The plot was fine but it didn't exactly make me want to read more.
I give my congratulations to the author for writing a good book that people who like women's romance (esque) fiction will enjoy.
I have received a advanced reader copy from the publisher for review. All thoughts and opinions are mine.
