OK as a supplement
June 24, 2014
I bought Daily Science to use with my 2nd grader knowing that it would only be a supplemental resource to use a springboard for diving deeper into the topics it presented. However, I found it lacking even as a supplemental resource. It presents a variety of topics in a spiral method like you would find in the public school which I find difficult for truly learning and mastering information.
The book presents 6 very general topics with 5 weeks of lessons for each topic. The information presented in the book is VERY superficial. You will absolutely need to supplement with other books, which is what we did with our son. The lessons, which are basically a workbook page, are very, very basic as well. I did not find them to be substantial in terms of review.
I think that this book is used best as a springboard to introduce a topic and then diver deeper into topics of interest on your own. Beyond that, I do not feel like this book offers much in terms of developing an understanding of scientific knowledge in children. I wouldn't use it again.
