Each day of the week contains Scripture passages for the coming Sunday from the Revised Common Lectionary, excerpts from the commentaries for reflection, a response, and a prayer. Additional material is provided for each Sunday.
These handsome volumes will be packaged in a soft leather-like cover with rounded corners, a stamped cover, and a sewn-in ribbon to help you keep your place.
Feasting on the Word is a twelve-volume lectionary commentary series that presents brief essays on each of four perspectives--exegetical, theological, pastoral, and homiletical--for each of the four Sunday readings. The series is edited by Barbara Brown Taylor and David L. Bartlett with a distinguished editorial board, and has been produced in partnership with Columbia Theological Seminary. For more information about the series and other related projects, visit FeastingontheWord.net.
Feasting on the Word is a monumental contribution. These substantially and beautifully produced volumes address the reader with all the gravitas and grace that preaching deserves. Feasting on the Word will richly repay your investment.
The list of authors is broad and diverse, and their backgrounds run the gamut from evangelical to Roman Catholic. There are liberals and conservatives. There are academics and non-academics. Some are well known, and others will be new to readers. All of this makes for a rather unique resource. Feasting on the word can be recommended highly.
-Sharing the Practice
A grand achievement that could well shape fine preaching for a generation to come.
-Peter W. Marty,
Pastor St. Paul Lutheran Church, Davenport, Iowa
Perhaps the most imaginative commentary on the revised common lectionary to date. A unique and remarkable commentary...already stands head and shoulders above the rest.
-The Living Church
Already recognized as the most ecumenical and comprehensive of the lectionary commentaries...A cornucopia of preaching and teaching insights.
-Thomas G. Long
Feasting on the Word has become my constant companion. Written and compiled with care, it is a resource that I feel I cannot go without.
Founding Pastor, House for All Sinners and Saints, Denver, Colorado
"A richly hued companion to volumes of Feasting on the Word, Daily Feast provides a simply structured way to enter into deeper reflection on the weekly texts of the Revised Common Lectionary. Gathering pithy, insightful, often provocative quotes from gifted contemporary theologians and teachers, it presents a daily path into personal reflection and prayerful response to the profoundly challenging and joyful message of the gospel.Designed to take church leaders into a deeper encounter with God, self, community, and creation, there is fare here to satisfy both mind and heart for the theologically and spiritually hungry." Marjorie J. Thompson, author of Soul Feast: An Invitation to the Christian Spiritual Life
