Evident in this great care God took in fashioning woman is the importance and value of each one. So why do so many women struggle with God's design, wishing they could change just this or that one thing about themselves?
Dr. Bunting challenges each reader to accept and embrace the fact that, in whatever season of life, she is God's masterpiece, not her own work of art. When God sees her, He sees His beautiful creation. A creation that has some wrinkles needing to be smoothed out, and yet is one in whom it is His delight to love.
Bunting strives to answer the question she herself asked several years ago: What does a godly woman look like? Bunting focuses on how God delights in the creation of women. Women are "God's Picasso." When a woman starts to spend more time with the Lord, she will start to apply the fruit of the Spirit to her daily life, whether she is single, engaged, married, a mom, or career-oriented. Bunting covers each fruit of the Spirit and provides examples of how to apply it to daily living through serving, witnessing, teaching, loving, and role-modeling.
The author is an expository Bible teacher and founder of Focused Forward Ministries. She serves as an adjacent professor at Dallas Baptist College. She structures her book to meet the needs of a wide variety of women. Each chapter addresses a different issue or group of women, such as those who are called into full-time ministry, those who have an impact on families, and those who can be mentors to women who are younger in the faith. Within each chapter, she has a small section addressing a specific problem or biblical moral.
How Bunting covers each issue reveals her deep knowledge of biblical truths regarding the role of women. She illustrates the call given to women in 1 Peter 3:3-4: "Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as elaborate hairstyles and the wearing of gold jewelry or fine clothes. Rather, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in Gods sight." Whereas Bunting is both wise and encouraging, readers will not find every chapter applicable because she addresses women from nearly all walks of life and does not focus on one specific group. This book is somewhat slanted toward women who are in college or who are career-focused, but all Christian women will find it interesting and insightful. Amanda Push, www.ChristianBookPreviews.com
Lynn McCallum4 Stars Out Of 5September 22, 2010Lynn McCallumThe subtitle sums up the message of the book: "Embracing Your Divine Design". I wasn't acquainted with this author or her ministry. Dr. Karia Bunting pulls no punches. No sugar-coated message here, but a powerful, yest sensitively written book on being the womean God designed us to be. Filled with an abundance of Scriptural references, The author gives many personal and practical examples to illustrate her message. A wide variey of topics is covered, such as temptation, singleness, marriage, motherhood, dealing with a dilemma, friendships, careers, and ministry. In this book. the author attempts to answer the question, "What does a godly woman look like?" I feel that she does this very well. This would be a helpful book for a group discussion or one on one mentoring. The only thing lacking is a discussion guide for help in applying the teachings presented in the book.
Nikole Hahn5 Stars Out Of 5September 20, 2010Nikole HahnDaddys Delight by Dr. Karia Bunting immediately attracted my attention. It talks about how a woman is our heavenly Fathers delight. It reminded me of a college kid my husband and I unofficially adopted who liked to call God, Dad. The book begins by exploring the nature of a Godly woman. Dr. Bunting goes through the different traits like longsuffering, goodness and meekness. She begins by exploring our divine design.Feminists are going to hate this book. It defies selfishness. It defines a womans role in society according to the Bible. It also covers very well the role of women in church without offending either side of that hot issue. I agreed with EVERYTHING she wrote. The book is filled with scripture and theology. It is not your typical feel-good book. Its goal is not to tell you how great you are and what you can accomplish. Instead, it explores Gods purpose for a woman in this life and a womans possibilities. It builds you up without simply putting a band-aid on a festering wound. It causes you to face your internal issues. She covers marriage, friendships, divorce, motherhood, and our many moods, issues, and problems.I live in Dallas, Dr. Bunting said on page 45, and in the summer the temperature reaches over 100 degrees. Some people get an attitude and their tempers flare up because they are too hot! Conversely, I have to watch myself when I get cold. I hate being cold. So I tell myself, Karia, dont get an attitude. You are just cold. Youll be all right. Then, I operate on what I tell myself, not how I feel. There are many moments where I will witness an argument. Typically, it is between a woman and a man. The woman is tired and irritated. Maybe she is on her monthly, but everything gets on her nerves. As I am overhearing the argument, I am finding that I side with the man. Its amazing how an outsiders point of view can see more clearly than the person in a bad situation. Book provided by the publisher for review
