Good story . Modest clothing for beach scenes. "missionary dating" example was not good.

years ago i heard a pastor make an analogy of the beer companies who produce light beer as opposed to the full calorie and alcohol beers, with what he called 'gospel light'. meaning that many times in our western culture we present a gospel message ( sermon, film, tract, etc.) that contains elements of truth but not the whole offensive message. i was reminded of that concept while watching this film. although it delves into the west coast surf culture on a level that would be attractive to surfers or skate boardes, and presents some positive messages, it does not make clear that we are eternally separated from our Creator and desperately in need of a Saviour (the Lord Jesus) and His transformation. it also delves into the dangerous concept of 'missionary dating' ( young people, or even more mature people who are Bible believers dating those who are not with hopes to draw them into faith in Christ). this more times than not ends in heart ache for both persons and can permanantly alienate someone from a God who loves them so dearly, but will not take away their free will...not a harmful film for the spiritually mature, but not a good message for the unbeliever or the spiritually immature.

I was expecting it to be better. As my 24 year old son said, they threw in the surfing angle in an attempt to attract viewers with something "cool" and then it had very very little to do with surfing at all. The acting in some cases was a little embarrassing. At first I thought the main character's friend was mentally handicapped but I actually don't think he was supposed to be . Sadly, he just came across that way.
