When I saw the title of this DVD Bible curriculum, I knew it was for me.

Cause I know I have issues.

I'm not the only one, right?

So I thought, "Sign me up for this review!"

I wanted to learn myself how I could better combat all of those "little foxes" that quickly become Mount Vesuvius in my life before you know it.

When the DVD/book combo arrived, I quickly perused the topics :: control, insecurity, comparison, fear, anger, and unforgiveness. I then promptly decided which ones I THOUGHT I really needed to work on. Then God totally rocked my world by challenging me on all the opposite topics from my internal plan.

    Basically, every lesson was important.

Every topic is a deal-breaker in how we connect to God and the world around when we do not allow the Lord to work it through our lives.

At first I was thrown off guard because I was not expecting REAL stories and a REAL small group experience RIGHT on the DVD. I was not sure how I felt about it at first and then Nicole Unice's words just consistently spoke truths near and dear to my heart. The women on the video were transparent and open about the hurdles they have and are dealing with in their own stories. It touches you deep. In addition, Nicole style is disarming at first, and then I realized she is a counselor and that is why. Her words and viewpoint launch from a heart to pour life into hurting women everywhere because it is what she has dedicated her life to for the past twenty-five years.

Also, as a woman who has led small groups for almost fifteen years, I love the layout of the curriculum :: testimony, time to journal/respond IN Bible study together{so no homework...yay!}, and a short fifteen minute focus on the Word to give us hope for the HOW we can apply HIS principles to our lives. Spanning eight weeks, this study is great for women who want to get real and delve into those pesky issues that plague us our whole lives...BUT this is a really great study to do at home alone...with the book OR with the DVD alone.

She's Got Issues, Nicole Unice (book and DVD)

I got this book and had to smile at the cover. It really says it all. We all have issues - but shhhhh.....we don't want any one to know we have issues. SOoooo.... we cover it up under that "good Christian girl" facade and plaster on a smile and go through the motions giving all the right "churchy" responses to life while struggling to maintain our "Perfect" exterior we are falling apart on the inside. And so we struggle on the inside - silently - thinking we are all alone in this crisis of identity and self-worth. In this book Nicole Unice delves into the issues of being a woman in today's hectic, face-paced society. She pulls back the layers of lies that the enemy has heaped upon us, exposing the truth and setting us free to be who God intended us to be. This is excellent for a small group experience - and your small group will definately walk away changed. Also - it will bring to light things that women just don't talk about - letting some see for the first time they are not alone in the issues they face. A small group will leave with a strong group of supporters and friends as they face head-on the issues in their individual lives. I will say that this author has a candid and personal writing style that makes the reader feel as if they are visiting with a friend about everyday stresses and secrets. Thanks so much to the publisher for the free review copy of the book and DVD. I would highly recommend this to all church groups.

In She's Got Issues, counselor and mom Nicole Unice takes a look at five (and a half) common issues: control, insecurity, comparison, fear, and anger (along with its cousin, unforgiveness). She says that all women struggle with at least one of these problems and some of us deal with more than one of them. I know I have them all, although some are not as big of a deal as others. I enjoyed the way she has a couple of chapters to dig more indepth with each category, and that she includes quizzes and other personal assessment tools. Some of the personal stories made me chuckle, and a few made me cringe...when I recognized my own behavior.

There is a dvd group experience that goes along with the book to make this an excellent small group Ladies Bible Study. I also found a Participation Guide online. So with these tools, along with your Bible, a journal, and a pen...you are all set up to begin to confront the issues that are holding you back in your relationship with God, others, and with yourself. Naturally, she doesn't promise that we will resolve all, or become little robots (no visions of becoming like The Stepford Wives, please), but Nicole does help you discover renovate and refine the person you are.

In compliance with the Federal Trade Commission, I want to say that I received complimentary copies of the materials used for this review from Tyndale House Publishers. I was not required to make a favorable review, but only asked for my opinion.

If you're honest, you will agree that we've all got issues. None of us is perfect. Sanctification is a life-time process. In this six-session teaching DVD based on her book (same title), Nicole Unice addresses six issues that most women struggle with: control, insecurity, comparison, fear, anger, and unforgiveness. I love Nicole's candid and casual approach. While I watched the DVD, I felt like I was being invited into her living room along with all the women there (on the screen) listening to her talk.

Each session starts with a conversation between Nicole and a different woman who is dealing with a different issue. After that, there is a pause for participants to write their thoughts in their journals. Next, Nicole teaches in a small group setting. She shares from her own experiences and she draws us to the Scriptures to find answers and encouragement. According to Nicole, you won't become issue-free after finishing the DVD but you will be closer to Jesus and learn to live victoriously in Him. I agree.

I highly recommend this Christ-centered, Biblically-sound DVD curriculum. It's an excellent tool for churches and women's groups. It includes leader's guide and participant's guide.

~ I received a free copy of this DVD and book from Tyndale House Publishers in exchange for my honest review. All opinions are my own.

Nicole is very easy going and her approach to the topic iv very accessible to most women, so you feel more of sharing a discussion with her, versus being spoken to, with the video. She is real- a wife and a mother, of similar age to most women who would be in the bible study groups. The video is made for 6 hour long sessions, which is a really good time frame for most small women's groups. The issues discussed are those all women are familiar with:

    Control

    Insecurity

    Comparison

    Fear

    Anger

    Unforgiveness

Nicole is very candid and urges women to open up to each other, share their issues and burdens (many of which are holdovers from middle and high school years), and to follow a Christian life, through discussion, bible reading and her book as a guide (it has wonderful stories and bible passages related to the issues). The included journalling and daily scripture thoughts will provide introspection and a way to do so. By letting 'go' of the control we live under, we can be set free for a more stress-free life!

If you are looking for something different, fresh and modern for your bible study group, this is the book/dvd curriculum for you!
