When her kids seem addicted to something like a toy or a video game, Susie Larson imposes what she calls a "partial fast" -- she takes away the object of their addiction for several days. This is not a punishment, Larson explains, but rather an effective way of breaking a demanding, entitled spirit: "[After the fast,] when you'd reintroduce an old toy...they would be so thankful for it again, [and] it never had the hold on them that it did before they would fast." How can you teach your own children self-restraint, patience and gratitude? Listen in as Larson offers practical advice from her book Growing Grateful Kids
"It's hard for us to wait for things, but it is good for us to wait for things. ...I think some of the greatest lessons I've learned were from not getting my way when I wanted it."
