Tell us a little about yourself. I'm a grand mother of five. I live in South Carolina with my husband and two dogs. I play the guitar and love gospel music. We visit prisons, orphanages, churches, women's abuse centers, addiction treatment centers and any place there is a need. As I speak to men, women and young people about Cruel Harvest, I am amazed by the ones who want to talk about their own lives. I tell my story of abuse, survival and recovery and many have told me that their lives were helped. We are the founders of Feed the Hungry Children, a non profit working with the needy in Kenya.
What was your motivation behind this project? I wrote Cruel Harvest in hopes that telling my story might help others who have gone through similar circumstances and show them that they are not alone.
What do you hope folks will gain from this project? I sincerely want everyone to know that healing is possible. No matter how far down you have sunk, you can get back up, dust your self off, and start all over again. There is nothing impossible for you if you have faith. Faith is what I want to leave the reader with. Faith and hope. And the absolute certainty that nothing is impossible!
How were you personally impacted by working on this project? Writing this book was one of the hardest things I have ever done in my life. It is also one of the most rewarding. I relived every day as I edited and wrote and rewrote. But in the end, I believe that writing my story was therapeutic and I feel it will have the same healing effect on others.
Who are your influences, sources of inspiration or favorite authors / artists? As I wrote and sent out Cruel Harvest, and received rejection slips, as all writers do, the one thing that kept me going, was the absolute assurance that God would publish Cruel Harvest. I prayed daily for years, to find a publisher. I never gave up because I am sure that I was given this life for a reason, and I believe that reason is to help others. My main source of inspiration was Max Lucado who I read received many rejections before he was published. He is one of my favorite authors, along with Corrie Ten Boon and many others I can't name them all.
Anything else you'd like readers / listeners to know: I love good coffee! I can drink a whole pot of coffee in the morning. I love dogs of every size, shape and breed. I love to sing. I would rather sing than eat,... and I LOVE to eat!
