JaniceCanadaGender: female4 Stars Out Of 5Solid Christian fictionMarch 28, 2013JaniceCanadaGender: femaleQuality: 4Value: 4Meets Expectations: 4After years of wandering, Amber Griffin happens upon the little town of Crossing, Oregon and decides to look for a job and a place to stay. She finds herself living and working in the home of Frank and Faye Yager, but she can't believe this Walton-type family is for real.
When she realizes the authenticity of the Yager family and their firm faith in God, she gradually begins to trust them—even to love them, but as Amber's story unravels, so does her life. Someone is looking for her. What do they want and are they going to take from her the best thing that's happened to her in sixteen years?
Author Carrie Daws places her characters in realistic small town America. The setting supports and warms the story. The characters are clearly defined. The plot moves along steadily, with a few nice twists and relational interests to increase suspense.
But for me, the best parts of the story are the positive traits of the characters, the confirmation that there are still functional families in this world, good people who really care about others, even strangers, but that their goodness comes not from themselves but from the forgiving God who sustains them.

I felt so much comfort, love and understanding of God. I felt a part of the family and was happy when they were happy and sad when they were. I've lived in most of the places in the book so it was wonderful to read a book and know just where Carrie was talking about. I came from a family of loggers and felt like it was old home week reading about it. I can't wait to get into the next book "Ryan's Crossing".
Carrie, your writing style is so warm and comforting. Thank you for writing these books. I needed the love and comfort

I loved the characters, they felt like friends, going through tough times & joys with some twists, turns & uncertainty. A story of learning to trust & forgive written wonderfully & believably. I was sad to come to the end until realizing I the second book in the series, Ryan's Crossing, was waiting for me to continue with these lovable characters. I received a free copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. I'm so glad because it introduced me to Carrie Daws whom I have happily added to my list of favorite Christian authors!
Mrs ARS5 Stars Out Of 5Nice Little ReadMarch 11, 2013Mrs ARSQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5This was a short yet fulfilling story. I really enjoyed meeting this family and how they took in Amber and loved on her even though they had their own lives. The romance between Amber and Peter was slow building but beautiful by the end. There was some issues both had to work through, and they were not easy ones. The hurt that Amber carried with her made me hurt for her. I look forward to Ryan's Crossing and meeting up with this family again.
I received this book from the author in exchange for my honest review.
B MaceAlexandria, MNAge: 55-65Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5Learning to TrustJanuary 30, 2013B MaceAlexandria, MNAge: 55-65Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5It is so wonderful to read a good, clean book that makes you look at your own life, and consider how you stand on the issue or issues written about. Amber has trouble with trust, in God, in people and in life. Where do you stand with the trust issue? This very well written story uses some suspense, lots of learning and a little romance to bring trust about in Amber's life. It certainly reminded me of how important it is to trust the Lord in everything.

Tell us a little about yourself. Over the years, God rewrote my dreams to include being a stay-at-home mom and a writer. I started by writing weekly devotions online before a mentor at the Christian Writers Guild encouraged me to try fiction. After almost ten years in the military, my husband medically retired and we now live in Virginia with our three children. Besides writing fiction novels, I stay busy homeschooling all three and volunteering with Military Ministry, a division of Cru (formerly Campus Crusade for Christ).
What do you hope folks will gain from this project? More than anything, I want readers to walk away from my stories with great hope. Today doesn't always look good; circumstances can feel overwhelming. But a mighty God waits for each of us to look to Him for love and support. He is in control and loves us more than we can fathom.
How were you personally impacted by working on this project? Amber is very close to my heart because I struggle with many of the same things she does. I still remember the day a friend looked me in the eye and told me how much I had to offer to others.
