Jenny Lucas swore shed never go home again. But being told youre dying has a way of changing things. Years after she left, she and her five-year-old daughter, Isabella, must return to her sleepy North Carolina town to face the ghosts she left behind. They welcome her in the form of her oxygen tanktoting grandmother, her stoic and distant father, and David, Isabellas dad . . . Who doesnt yet know he has a daughter. As Jenny navigates the rough and unknown waters of her new reality, the unforgettable story that unfolds is a testament to the power of love and its ability to change everythingto heal old hurts, bring new beginnings . . . Even overcome the impossible. A stunning debut about love and loss from a talented new voice.
This novel is absolutely amazing. The characters are quirky, relatable, and incredibly realistic. The emotional struggle that the characters find themselves in as a result of Jennys unfortunate news is gripping and keeps readers turning pages. From the start of the novel, the reader is there. Whats more, there is nothing clichéd or predictable about this story. Everything from characters to plot twistsis original and unique, demonstrating Holmes refreshingly strong and distinct voice. This fabulous story will keep readers wanting more.
Crossing Oceans has a strong emotional hook and will keep you reading until you wipe your eyes, blow your nose, and find your place again. This book will make you think, it will make you laugh, and it will definitely make you cry. I would recommend this book to anyone who is looking for something new and different in Christian fiction and has a few tears to spare. Shannon Potelicki, www.ChristianBookPreviews.com

I absolutely love, love, love this story. One minute I am laughing out loud and then grabbing a box of tissues the next. Gina Holmes is an excellent storyteller she has quickly become my favorite contemporary author. In this book, the characters are real, the issues are real, and then emotions are real. I cannot tell you how much I love this book! I would love to see this book on the screen as a movie.
I definitely look forward to more by Gina Holmes. She obviously has a long career ahead of her.
Highly highly recommended!

I sure can!!October 5, 2011Robin PraterMissouriAge: 35-44Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5While I was at the ACFW Conference I picked up, Crossing Oceans by Gina Holmes.I just had to share this beautifully written book with you. What an emotional ride of tears and laughter. Oh, this is one of the sweetest, most meaningful books I have had the pleasure of reading. As I walked through the book store this was the first book I picked up. Wow, did God know what He was doing.
The main character is Jenny Lucas. Home is not the place she ever expected to visit again, but that is exactly where the Lord has taken her. We meet her precious baby girl, and Jenny's father, whom she hasn't seen for six years. We too meet other characters that will touch your heart in ways you didn't think possible.
Such vibrant characters live within these pages. This is one of those unforgettable books that will tear your heart apart. I tell you I cried as I turned the pages of this book. Ah, but this story is just not filled with sadness. It if filled with the precious hope of Christ. We see faith and a love that is unconditional.
I can tell you that Gina Holmes is a Rock Star Writer! For her debut novel this is one of the best books ever! I promise, you cannot grab this book up fast enough. I walked away from reading this book with a reminder that when I feel like giving up or feel as though I cannot make it another moment, God is there to guide my way and to fill me with all I need. Life is precious and we must live each day as though it was our very last.

ForknerWyomingAge: 35-44Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5Even though I have met the author, Gina, and had been hoping for - and looking forward to - her debut novel for a long time, I admit I was a little bit nervous about the book's topic at first. Would it be depressing? Did I really want to devote so much time to a novel that might make me feel sad and hopeless no matter how well-written? I am so glad I read this lovely novel. It was full of hope and redemption. This beautiful story is one of the best I've read in CBA fiction, although I would not limit this novel to only Christian readers. I would recommend the book to both Christians and non-Christians for its wonderfully told story and its message of hope.

In this case, I judged the book by the cover but it went beyond what I expected. I could hardly put it down! I will definitely be looking for more books by Gina Holmes.

Tell us a little about yourself. I've been writing toward the goal of publication for something like ten years. The first four (unpublished) novels I wrote were in the suspense genre. I'm married to the love of my life and together we have 5 children, ranging in ages from 8 to 20. I love to hike, garden, and of course... read!
What was your motivation behind this project? I don't really start writing with any particular motivation, other than a seedling of an idea. The story takes on the shape the characters lead it.
What do you hope folks will gain from this project? Wow, there's so much that this book delves into. One of the main thing is that love isn't always about doing what feels good. Sometimes we're asked for something that feels impossible. The world often tells us that we deserve to be happy. We all WANT to be happy, I certainly do, but what if Jesus had taken this mindset? Where would we all be? If anyone deserved to be happy it was him. What IS promised us is joy. Which, of course, is much more permanent.
How were you personally impacted by working on this project? When I started writing Crossing Oceans, I was going through one of the darkest periods of my life. I worked out a lot of inner turmoil I was having I suppose. Writing is very therapeutic. I also was reminded through my own words that love isn't just a feeling but each decision we make.
Who are your influences, sources of inspiration or favorite authors / artists? Well, I love the writing of Charles Martin, Lisa Samson, Francine Rivers, Claudia Mair Burney, Arthur Golden, John Irving, Betty Smith, etc. I'm told by some readers that my storylines remind them of Nicholas Sparks.
Anything else you'd like readers / listeners to know: I'd like them to know that although the subject matter of Crossing Oceans is a tough one, the book is full of humor, hope and a happy ending. All Christians are promised one of those, after all!
