Jenny Lucas returns to her small town in North Carolina, a place she left for a reason, when a fatal diagnosis forces her hand. She and her young daughter Isabella move back in with her father and ailing grandmother to spend the remainder of her time at home and make things right. While there, she is forced to confront strained relationships with her emotionally-detached father, as well as her ex-boyfriend, David, who doesnt know he fathered Isabella and has since married. Along the way, she also finds feelings for her old friend, Craigfeelings that, though mutual, can never be fulfilled. All the while, Isabella must be prepared for Jennys coming death. Jenny fights an emotional battle and struggles to find healing, forgiveness, and love.
This novel is absolutely amazing. The characters are quirky, relatable, and incredibly realistic. The emotional struggle that the characters find themselves in as a result of Jennys unfortunate news is gripping and keeps readers turning pages. From the start of the novel, the reader is there. Whats more, there is nothing clichéd or predictable about this story. Everything from characters to plot twistsis original and unique, demonstrating Holmes refreshingly strong and distinct voice. This fabulous story will keep readers wanting more. Crossing Oceans has a strong emotional hook and will keep you reading until you wipe your eyes, blow your nose, and find your place again. This book will make you think, it will make you laugh, and it will definitely make you cry. I would recommend this book to anyone who is looking for something new and different in Christian fiction and has a few tears to spare.
