Here are three books I recommend for advice and wisdom on boys becoming men.
In Practical Happiness, Bob Schultz employs short captivating stories crafted to guide young men toward a life of contentment, to illustrate that happiness is not found merely in what they have, where they go, or what exciting thing they can afford to do next, but rather in their attitude and response to life. Each chapter addresses questions: What is success? How do I handle personal failure? How should I respond when others let me down? Can I find happiness in a world full of sorrow and uncertainty?
Practical Happiness will draw young men closer to a life of personal fulfillment as they draw closer to God.
Boyhood and Beyond is a powerful guide to good behavior and godly character. Bob’s clear story illustrations will help your boys glean wisdom and common sense from each of the short chapters. Topics such as authority, inventiveness, and honesty are covered, along with meaty issues such as overcoming fear, laziness, and temptation. He even teaches boys how to do the seemingly impossible: how to love and protect their sisters!
Created for Work is a warm-hearted guide filled with stories from real life, to teach young men what it means to be good honest workers. Chapters teach the importance of following directions, thinking creatively, respecting authority, handling money, happily completing tasks in a timely manner, and much more.
Include discussion questions. For ages 10 and up. Approx. 180–225 pages each, softcovers from Great Expectations.

Great book! I homeschool and assigned this to each of my boys to read and write a report on. I could tell they "got something" out of it by the change in their work attitudes after reading the book.

This book is wonderful. We did like another reviewer and read it aloud as a devotion. Our kids are 19, 14, 11; two boys, one girl. I can only hope they got half of what their dad and I got out of it. We have decided to go back and read it aloud again. It's that good.

Our family has been greatly blessed by this book. I cannot recommend it enough!!!
We use it as a read aloud devotion with our kids: 9, 11 and 14. It hasn't mattered that it was written for boys, 2 of our kids are girls. It applies well to boys or girls. In fact, it applies well to adults!
We have loved reading Mr. Schultz's stories and life examples. They stick with you and help you to remember and apply specific principles from God's Word. We only have 2 "lessons" left in the book, I wish we weren't so close to the end!

This book is worth twice the price. Our grandson is about to get his first job. He was very interested in this book. The stories were life lessons that we could discuss. Wish we had a book like this when I was growing up.

This book is great for the whole family to read together. My husband has even read chapters to his men's group. It is not just for boys, although a friend said it helped her son and husband to have some connection.

This book our 13 1/2 yr old son has already started reading, though it was to be part of his 8th grade school work, he picked it up and began reading...his comments were that it was cool and he wanted to get going on it! Awesome! Our son is an only child and so he is blessed to have many things, this book we hoped would put a little perspective and show him that he will have to work to live and provide for his family, like his Dad and I do. Awesome book! 8th grade approved!!
