Most of us know "how to" get healthy. Where things often fall apart is with our "want to."
In Lysa TerKeursts book Made to Crave, she helps women find the missing link between our desire to be healthy and the spiritual empowerment necessary to make that happen.
But when French fries are so close and God feels so far away, we need more than nineteen chapters to stay motivated and on track. Thats why Lysa wrote this daily devotional with sixty inspirational entries. There is plenty of new material not in the original book, as well as your favorite nuggets of wisdom from Made to Crave.
In this devotional you will find:
Just like the Made to Crave book, this Made to Crave Devotional is not a how-to-get-healthy book. It is the road to finding the lasting "want to" that extends far beyond the surface issues of weighing less and wanting to wear a smaller clothes size. Theres a spiritual battle going on. Its real. And its amazing how perfectly the Bible gives us specific ways to find victory over our food struggles.
Even for girls who dont crave carrots.
Lysa TerKeurst is president and chief visionary officer of Proverbs 31 Ministries and the author of six New York Times bestsellers, including Good Boundaries and Goodbyes, Forgiving What You Cant Forget, and Its Not Supposed to Be This Way. She writes from her familys farm table and lives in North Carolina. Connect with her at www.LysaTerKeurst.com or on social media @LysaTerKeurst.
Each day's devotion begins with a passage of Scripture and a "Thought for the Day," then proceeds to a two- or three-page vignette about TerKeurst's struggles with eating disorders and advice on how to move more and eat less, and then concludes with a daily prayer that seeks spiritual guidance and help in controlling hunger and weight gain. The devotions often contain lessons on nutrition, spiritual wisdom, personal health, self-respect, individual confrontation with reality, and goal setting.
Year after year, TerKeurst would make New Years resolutions to start exercising, stop snacking, and begin taking better care of her health; within a week or two she would find herself going to parties and indulging in treats and forgoing all her willpower. Finally, she realized that there were issues in her life that she needed to get right with the Lord before she could ever get things right in her physical and spiritual make-up. By exploring the Bible for specific help, devoting more time to prayer and fellowship with the Lord, and shaking free of emotional "baggage" she had been carrying, she finally found a way to control her eating and improve her health and appearance. She wrote a book about it and wound up on Oprah and other national TV shows.
However, TerKeurst feels that it is imperative for women to sustain their closeness to the Word of God in order to stay disciplined to their eating regiments. Thus, she has prepared a devotional that can be followed for a week, a month, or even 60 consecutive days to meet the "hard time" needs of women who may be tempted to slip back into the old eating habits. Fortunately, this book is written with humor, humility, and optimism, so it lays on no guilt trips nor delivers any lectures. It's just meant to face a real need, with real help, based on real Scriptures. Dr. Dennis E. Hensley, www.ChristianBookPreviews.com
