Product Description

When Amish farmer Pete Treger moves to Paradise Township, Pennsylvania, he meets Cate and Betsy Miller. Both are beautiful, but older sister Cate is known more for her sharp tongue and fiery temper than her striking appearance. Betsy, on the other hand, is sweet and flirty, and seems to have attracted most of the bachelors in Lancaster County!

However, the sisters' father has made one rule: elder sister must marry first, before the younger can even start courting. Though he finds both sisters attractive, something about Cate's feisty demeanor appeals to him. Soon the other bachelors in the district convince Pete to court Cate. She hardly seems receptive to his overtures, though. Instead, she's immediately suspicious of his interest.

#1 Bestselling Author Leslie Gould Delivers a New Amish Romance Series

When Amish farmer Pete Treger moves to Paradise Township, Pennsylvania, seeking a better life, he meets sisters Cate and Betsy Miller. Both are beautiful, but older sister Cate is known more for her sharp tongue and fiery temper than her striking appearance. Betsy, on the other hand, is sweet and flirty--and seems to have attracted most of the bachelors in Lancaster County!

However, the sisters' wealthy father has made one hard and fast rule: elder sister must marry first, before the younger can even start courting. Unfortunately for poor Betsy, and for the men who want to court her, her older sister, Cate, doesn't have any suitors--until Pete comes to town, that is.

Though he finds both sisters attractive, something about Cate's feisty demeanor appeals to him. Soon the other bachelors in the district convince Pete to court Cate. She hardly seems receptive to his overtures, though. Instead, she's immediately suspicious of his interest.

At the beginning of this book I really thought that this great author had made a huge mistake to write a book about Cate, of all people she could have picked. Cate was honestly so picky and prickly, too. She was loving and extremely kind and close to her family; but when it came to other people; well that was another story altogether! She worked for her Dat in his businesses. He was a very prosperous business man who didn't fit my idea of an Amish man at all. But he was a loving Dat who had done his best as a widower in raising and providing for his 2 girls who were his world. Kate was his right hand person in the office; but she wasn't so well suited for the kitchen. She tended to burn most everything she cooked which was rather a sore point to her family. She was also quite a bookworm! O, how she did love to read as much as she could possibly work into her busy schedule. She and Nan (the lady who drove the bookmobile) were even friends.

Betsy, Kate's younger sister wanted to get married to Levi in the worst way; but not Cate. Instead Cate really wanted to run her own business; but of course, she wasn't sure what her Dat would say about that and hadn't talked to him about it much either. One day while Cate and Nan were discussing a book or making small talk a young man who obviously knew Nan quite well happened upon the scene. He pulled Nan into a long hug and then they began talking quite a rapidly. It turned out that Pete and Nan were cousins. Cate was impressed by this young man in spite of his very old clothing and his less put together image. There was just something about him that resonated with Cate about him. It turned out he was looking for a man by the name of Bob Miller, a business man he was hoping to get a job from. Of course, he was actually looking for Cate's Dat. Cate took off on her horse; but when she got to her road and turned off, there was Pete walking down the lane behind her. He had managed to get a ride with someone. He figured the best way to meet her Dat, whom she had told him several times wasn't hiring, was simply to follow her home. Cate was quite angry with him. Her Dat saw them coming up the lane and he went out immediately to meet the young man following Cate. Almost as soon as introductions were made and Pete stated his desire to work for Mr. Miller, Cate's Dat surprised her by hiring him on the spot to work in the showroom. She couldn't believe it and she had all kinds of suspicions about Pete.

Not long after that; Pete lets Cate know that he would like to court her. Naturally she doesn't believe him about that either; she is sure he just wants to get in good with Betsy who of course, has eyes only for Levi. However, Pete never really shows that interest. Not long after Pete enters the scene; Bob Miller tells Cate that he wants grandchildren running around the house. And since Cate is the oldest; he expects her to get married before he will even hear anything about Betsy and Levi getting married. Both the girls are most upset. Cate truly wants Betsy to have her wedding first and she really doesn't have her heart set on marrying anyone. Finally though , things change in a big way when Betsy tells Cate she is late with her monthly time and she believes she is pregnant. Cate is horrified for the dishonor that will bring upon her Dat. Besides this Levi really wants to marry Betsy so Betsy begs Cate to try to get Pete to marry her. Cate makes a proposition to Pete, including a proposal for a marriage of convenience only. He asks her for time to think about it. But in the end, he agrees to it. They get married and leave for his his parent's home in NY. Then begins the most incredible time in Cate's young life. She thinks she is ready to face whatever is ahead; but she learns she needs the Lord's help in her life as never before and she begins to go to Him with her problems which are numerous. God begins to change her and the change is remarkable. The remainder of this story I won't give away. It is a great read through the end.

I really liked this book. It , to me , was a dfiferent story line than I had read in most Amish Fiction books. It held my interest from start to finish and I could not wait to be able to return to reading to see what was going to happen to Cate next. I felt great empathy for her in making the decisions she made and what she went through in New Youk doing work she was not used to be doing. It was just a wonderful story and I don't want to spoil it for anyone but please read it for yourself. I have already received the second one, Adoring Addie and I hope it is as good as Courting Cate. I do hope these same charahters appear in Adoring Addie. Great book by Leslie Gould.

I have read plenty of Amish romances and fiction in recent times, and I generally love them and award them a 5-star rating with absolutely no trouble. Well, let me tell you something. This is by far one of the best Amish romance I have ever read! It was so different from the others I have read, and in a good way, too! I was drawn into the book from the very beginning, and at times, I was so into the book that I forgot where I was!

This is a unique Amish story. I don't want to give away any spoilers, but it will definitely keep you guessing at every turn. While you can count on an ending being something you will enjoy, the journey is full of suspense at times. There were times I just wanted to shake some sense into Cate or slap Pete upside the head, I was fully engaged in the story at all times.

I love the way the spiritual elements are seamlessly woven into the story line. I always find that Amish fiction is consistently the best at accomplishing this. Even if the people walk away from God, they always seem to come back. And you will see that in Cate, and I found it very inspiring. And God works in the lives of everyone else as well, and by the end of the book, everyone is serving God!

If you like Amish fiction and/or clean romances, this is definitely the book for you! I can't recommend it highly enough.

This book was a good read from beginning to end! I enjoyed this book so much. I haven't read an Amish fiction book quite like this one. I think that is why I liked it so much.

Cate Miller is one feisty gal. She has resigned herself to the fact that she will never marry. All the guys hang around her younger sister Betsy without giving Cate a second glance or so it seems. Perhaps her grumpy and grouchy attitude doesn't help. Maybe Pete Treger, from New York can soften Cate up, then again maybe not. Will Cate ever find someone to love and will she find happiness?

When we distance ourselves from God, things can turn out far different then what we hoped it would. Will Cate find her way back to God and happiness? Can she let go of bitterness and learn to forgive?

I am looking forward to reading more books by this author.

If I had to sum this book up in one word it would be clever. Why clever you ask? Leslie has taken the skeleton of Shakespeare's Taming of the Shrew and fleshed it out in her own unique way. It is kind of like Old England meets Lancaster County.

I am a big fan of Shakespearian literature so when I first heard about this book I kept wondering how Leslie was going to stay true to the storyline yet keep it an Amish based book. I was pleasantly surprised at how closely she stuck to the original.

The thought of an Amish woman being a shrew just didn't fit with my perception of how I think they conduct themselves. The character of Cate really does start out as a shrew. It is very interesting to read about why Cate has developed such a churlish attitude. The contrast between her and her sister Betsy couldn't be more apparent. The whole community loves Betsy but many tend to avoid Cate. Of course if you know the original story you already know that Betsy isn't all that she appears to be. Cate's motives are about self-preservation while Betsy's are just selfish.

The second book in the series, Adoring Addy was just released and I look forward to snatching it up as well. It is based on the story of Romeo and Juliet. If it is even half as witty as this book it will be worth the read.
