Benjamin Warfield's book on the cessation of miracles with the close of apostolic revelation in the first century is unanswerable. Not that many haven't tried; they have. An advocate of the Bible's inspiration and authority, Warfield expertly examines the Biblical text. At the same time, he exposes modern claims, which rely on superstition and sensationalism, often exploited by certain evangelists for monetary gain. Warfield's intelligent and well-researched book is not only a "good read," but also a source of study and reflection for years to come. Get it and see for yourself. June 4, 2004

This is a classic work on the cessation of the charismata. Warfield was one of the first theologians to speak out against the Pentecostal movement at the very start of the movement.Although I don't agree with Warfield's book, this is a must have for both charismatics and non-charismatics as well. This book gives the arguments used today by those who do not believe in the gift of tongues, interpretation of tongues, and healings. Warfield seeks to build a case of cessation with the completion of the NT and the death of the apostles. He argues that the gifts listed above were temporary and to be used to validate the gospel (Hebrews 2:4) but with the complete Bible, we don't need these gifts. January 3, 2003
