In Eat the cookie...Buy the shoes, well known author and speaker Joyce Meyer brings the issue of balance in our lives to the forefront. Not diminishing the importance of discipline, she lets us know that every once in a while it's okay to get off our structured regimen and enjoy a cookie, buy that pair of shoes you've been eyeballing, or even both! Jacketed hardcover.
I am, as Joyce wrote, "a brave man" who read this book, and I am glad I did! My "Martha attitude" was the cause of so many problems, and not just for myself. I challenge you to ask the man who has lost his family what he would do differently if he had a chance - undoubtedly, he would say 'spend more time WITH them'. God instituted the principle of rest, to not stop once in a while is sin. We were not created to bring people to Christ - He can get that done on His own - we were created to glorify God, & we do that by loving Him & others, & enjoying both with joy & laughter. Joyce does not teach gluttony or excess, in fact, her examples are often of "little things" that cost little, if anything. I urge you, the prospective reader, to simply get the book & let the Lord Jesus Christ give you what He will from it.
This book is definitely for women of all ages. Joyce Meyer is so funny and then she gets you right where you need the most help. She speaks so freely and truthfully and all women can relate. She is one of the best writers for today's women.
Giving yourself permission to lighten up and being materialistic are two different things. Women... too often do not take care of themselves because they are too busy caring for others. Obviously "permission" is not given by men so we as women must let each other know that it is ok to get something for yourself once in a while.
