4 Stars Out Of 5
A Cute, Thoughtful Book
August 13, 2013
Other reviewers have criticized this book for being "catholic" and for adopting a view other than six day creationism. These criticisms point to the fact that Robert W. Jenson is a creative ecumenical Lutheran theologian, influenced by people like Karl Barth and Augustine. Everyone has now been warned: Jenson is a theologian working in and for the mainline church.
I read the book twice after receiving it. First, I read it to myself. Second, I read it aloud with my brother. The book is fun: I laughed out loud a few times. The book often expresses deep theological thoughts with great creativity, particularly, his discussion of the Trinity, the image of God, and imputation of righteousness.
I'm giving the book 4 stars because there is also plenty of fluff in the book that is neither funny nor theologically helpful. The book is short enough and the good content appears often enough that the fluff does not become too difficult to wade through, however.
The book can be easily read in a single sitting and is well worth the greatly reduced price here at CBD.
I read the first few pages of this book and was very disappointed, so disappointed that I have not picked it up again to continue reading. I purchased it hoping it would be helpful in answering the questions that my children ask me, but if one is trying to mesh Darwin's THEORY of evolution and fit it into the TRUTH of the gospel, I find that very confusing to children. Both are based on a belief system, but only ONE is true.I am thankful that I can confidently instruct my children using the truth of God's inerrant word instead of relying on the ever-changing belief in science.Regards.
