Five Conversations You Must Have With Your Daughter is a very informative book. The author, Vicki Courtney, is honest about subjects we need to broach with our young girls. She also highlights areas we need to watch in our relationship with our daughters to keep them wanting to talk with us about what is happening in their lives. Her major sources of advice come from verses in the Bible. She stresses that we need to keep these Biblical principles as the guidelines for steering our daughters' in the right direction.

Some of the major topics in this book are weight, how dressing changes the way you are viewed, and sexual experiences now compared to fifty years ago. She shows how the media and even our conversations can change how a young girl views her body and chooses to act. With the media being the major culprit we need to scrutinize what our daughters are watching, reading and even listening to. The author stresses that even if we think our daughters might be old enough for online socializing we should limit it until they are age 18. This is just another form of influence you need to keep yourself abreast of.

The author is very open about her personal life and personal convictions. You may not and probably won't agree with all she has written. I thought she did a great job of presenting her viewpoint by using examples as well as researched statistics. If anything this book will open your eyes to what really goes on in a young girls life and the influences that affect her view of herself. Worth reading if you have a young girl or teenager and want to know how to approach certain subjects with her. Not all of the book will help you but it does give you a guideline to follow to at least start talking!

I would like to thank NetGalley and the publisher for the copy of this book I enjoyed reading. I gave an honest review based on my opinion of what I read.

Really has helped me during my "OH NO!! My Daughters almost a teenager!!" panic. She touched on all the subjects that scare me. She has sound advice, plus I enjoyed her writting style. She doesn't ride the fence on issues, and I respect her for that!!

I will be leading a group studying this book and I think it is wonderfully written, full of up to date info for parents and teachers. Biblically based and as a mother of grown boys, I think it really hits the nail on the head. Loved it. Very helpful, would recommend to everyone. Also, pastor and his wife read it and really liked it.

Moms and teen girls - read this book. Read it together if you can; if not, at least read it. Highlight the concepts you find extremely important and noteworthy. This book exposes many of the lies that bombard our girls and undermine godly parents on a daily basis. Arm yourselves against the media messages that Satan uses in an attempt to destroy our young ladies. Our girls need for us to be informed and active; they need our help to navigate the teen years; they need our encouragement. This book will help you get the conversation started.

Q: 5 Conversations You Must Have With Your Daughter-- What about a father reading it with her ? Acceptable or touchy?

A: This book is written by and designed to be used by mothers who have daughters (and to some extant sons that need to know how to defend their sisters in Christ). While the original intent is for mothers, after reading the book, it would appear that fathers, who have both wisdom and a strong relationship with their daughters, would be able to utilize the information presented.

As each father and daughter are different including their relationship, a higher level of discernment should be used before engaging with your daughter in these difficult conversations, especially if there is a maternal figure in the daughter's life who could work as a surrogate mother for some of the more involved discussions. Simply put, some of the information will be better received if it comes from a woman who has lived through the situations than a man who has only observed them..

Q: Could my 18 year old benefit from this book? Or did I missed the moment?

A: It depends on your daughter. Sections of this book are written to older teens and it is recommended for girls up to 18.

Q: my daughters are 10 and 7 would this book help me with their ages?

A: Yes, this book is divided into specific age groups so you can address each child's needs individually.
