Product Description

Conversational Evangelism takes so-called 'lifestyle evangelism' to it's logical conclusion, bringing the interaction that we have with unsaved friends and family into focus for us to use in helping clarify Gospel elements in a steady progression toward a complete Gospel presentation.
Norman Geisler, for years on the vanguard of the defense of the Gospel, and David Geisler, founder and President of Meekness and Truth Ministries, come together with a plan of pre-evangelism - making sure that the Gospel is understood when it is finally presented - that can be used supplementally with any accurate evangelism model.

Publisher's Description

Witnessing used to involve laying out the truth and guiding a person to understand and accept it. But the awareness of basic Christian principles has changed and so have the needs of pre-believers. With a passion for people, authors David and Norman Geisler share an engaging, conversational approach to evangelism as they address:

  • What makes old models of witnessing ineffective in today's culture
  • Why evangelism must start with relational pre-evangelism
  • How to ask questions, listen attentively, and understand what someone believes
  • Ways to identify the real barriers to belief in order to build a bridge to truth
  • How to keep dialogue going with different personality types

This refreshing, practical resource is ideal for churches and individuals. Readers will discover how God uses their everyday encounters for great things when they switch from trying to witness effectively to effectively being a witness through communication and compassion.

I am reading this book and it really makes me think and reconsider how I have failed trying to reach to others with the gospel simply because I ignored the others needs, barriers and their non-understanding of the basics of the gospel as we see it so often in our world today. I find a new desire and motivation to reach out to others; only now I will seek the prepare the soil and understand where the people I want to reach do stand before I share anything about Christ. This seem like a method to apply but if you consider how Jesus ask questions you will understand why we so often fail and get frustrated trying to share the whole gospel at once in a 4 steps presentation. Though God may still use the 4 steps gospel presentation, the majority of the people around us will need to have their hearts prepared. As a farmer prepares the soil before he sows, so ought we to do so in our mulitucutural, multifaith and postmodern world. As the son of a farmer, I wonder why I did not understand this before.
