Lady Trent's sleuthing skills are put to the test in a Victorian mystery about mischief, murder, and a lost heir.
With the aid of her partner Dylan Tremayne, Lady Serafina Trent aims to help her neighborsùthe Haydensùdetermine who the true heir is to their sizable estate. After some investigating, she shocks the Haydens when she reveals that the child they believed had died at birth is actually alive and living as a criminal in London's worst slum.
Then the Hayden's butler is murdered and the stakes are dangerously raised. Lady Serafina must employ her famous scientific reasoning to help her discover answers before foul play strikes againùthough her beloved reason fails to explain her growing attraction to Dylan . . .
Enjoy Victorian England through the eyes of Christian Fiction's most beloved author.

I could not put it down until I finished it. The author writes in a way to hold your interest during the whole mystery. I also loved the Christian content in how Dylan did not force his Christianity on the other characters, especially Lady Trent. The author showed how you should be led by the Holy Spirit in your evangelism.

Nonna Wagner4 Stars Out Of 5March 27, 2009Nonna WagnerThe stories are interesting and the mysteries well designed. However, Mr. Morris has one flaw in his writing and that is the asumption that his readers have not read the previous books in the series. The repitition is annoying to one who has just finished book one and then again he repeats in each following book.
Stephanie5 Stars Out Of 5January 1, 2009StephanieI looked forward to this one for quite awhile, and was not disappointed. Serafina and Dylan are as engaging as ever, and I thoroughly enjoyed the further development of each of them. In addition, the budding romance between Trevor and Gervase is sweet, and the family tensions absolutely fascinating, from a psychological standpoint. Additionally, I enjoyed the new insights into Matthew Grant, and the Christmas scene between him and Dora is absolutely touching. But I think the thing Gilbert does best in this book is the plot twists. At several points, I found myself saying, "oh, I see where this is going"--only to be surprised. Unfortunately, this book loses half a star because Gilbert repeats the same things several times (i.e., David misses his dad, Lady Bertha has blunt features). But considering the book's many good elements, this is hardly worth even mentioning. I look forward to Sonnet to a Dead Countess--good work, Gilbert!
Carolyn JohnsonGolden Valley, MNAge: Over 65Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5August 16, 2008Carolyn JohnsonGolden Valley, MNAge: Over 65Gender: femaleGilbert Morris has done it again! This second book of the series is as pleasing and satisfying as the first. All the (diverse) characters are well developed. My favorite one is Dylan Tremayne, who is a top-notch example of a truly committed Christian, even when ridiculed--and before others--because of his lowly background. The scenes of his relating to and playing with Lacy Serafina's son are touching and memorable. Equally striking is the description of the poorest area of London (shades of Charles Dickens). In addition, Mr. Morris is an excellent writer of the cozy mystery. I see that Lady Serafine comes to faith in the next book in the series--I can hardly wait (a year) for it! I hope that the author gives is many more books in this series.
