You already know the women you'll meet in this book. They may sit beside you in the pew, or join you at small group, or touch your heart from a speaker's podium. They have all been saved. They all love the Lord, and yet--one struggles with suicidal despair, another is involved with adultery, another endures regular beatings, and so on. They're all good Christian girls who have been broken by sin. They all needed the honest, life-giving truth at the heart of this book. Do you? 288 pages, softcover from Thomas Nelson.

Publisher's Description

In this powerful book, prominent Christian speaker and TV personality Tammy Maltby gets specific about the brokenness and pain in her own life and the lives of other "good Christian girls." This book is not a lurid exposé, but an honest and courageous look at the secrets that often lurk behind a "victorious" Christian façade-secrets that range from feelings of inadequacy to sexual sins, shopping addictions and thoughts of suicide. It is also a passionate testimony to the Lord's eagerness to cleanse and heal those who turn to Him. And it is a fervent appeal to God's people to own up to the sin, brokenness and shame in our midst and to extend to each other the same persistent, healing grace that Jesus extends to us.

This book really spoke to my heart. At first I was taken aback with how Tammy Maltby interpreted biblical stories

Although colourful and imaginative, they we're make belief and I was a bit skeptical with filling in the blanks in areas that the bible didn't give an in-depth description about.

Apart from that, I was able to understand and self reflect in ways that allowed me to question my own points of view and even subconscious judgemental perceptions. In the areas I did relate to, my heart melted, I realized there are other good christian females out there struggling just like me. Women who are unable to open up because of hurts pains and failures that they are afraid people will condemn them for. This book allows the liberty to be true to yourself and look to God. Not everyone will related to every chapter, but you can understand and look see things with an empathetic heart.

This books overall review is great. I believe that it can truly speak about the reality of womens lives who are both in ministry and out. It encourages those who are struggleling and have struggled by demonstrating that you are not the only one out there in your situation. I recommend this book to anyone who feels lost and needs to hear about the greatness of God and also to those who are mentoring those in need.

I am about halfway through this book, but it is a great read. It is great to read something that addresses our failures and God's grace after we become Christians. I think so many times people think once I was sinner, then I found Jesus, and now I don't screw up anymore and that is so wrong. The book doesn't support the sin but lovingly provides hope and encouragement to pick yourself back up and dust yourself off and keep running that race called the Christian life.

Tammy is awake to what others have buried their heads in the sand to: we're all broken inside, and our journey to wholeness comes in sharing our stories with one another. Why is it that we struggle so with this? Why does it seem like Christians are the last ones in on the joke: we claim to love others, yet are known to our neighbors as hypocrites? Motivated more by guilt and shame than by love, we hide our hurts from everyone including ourselves. It's a broken way to live and it certainly isn't Jesus' way.And that's why we need more books like "Confessions" as an invitation to others that says not only is it safe to be vulnerable, but that is the only way to health, and in fact, is the only way to be a true disciple of Jesus. In "Confessions" you'll recognize parts of yourself and you'll see where perhaps you still need healing and how that healing can begin. If you're like the great thundering herd of Christians that, lost in the dust and the noise of others around you, struggle to voice the broken parts of your story, you need this book as a catalyst to your healing and growth. The paradox is that by confessing your humanity to others, Christ, the God-man, is formed in you. Read "Confessions" and weep - with joy and recognition.
