Tell us a little about yourself. I am the Senior Pastor of Bethany Evangelical Free Church. I am also an adjuct professor at Denver Seminary and Simpson Graduate School teaching classes in Worship and Culture, Planning Worship Services and Corporate Worship.
What was your motivation behind this project? The church needs to give its community a taste of heaven. Many of our worship services are tame, lame and the same every week. People need some kind of transcendent experience in their week if they are ever going to get ready for heaven. Most importantly, people are longing for the manifest presence of God.
What do you hope folks will gain from this project? This book is a follow up book to The Complete Worship Leader although not related in content. In other words, you will get alot out of this book without having ever read the CWL. Whereas the CWL focused on the people who lead us into the presence of God, The Complete Worship Service is about how to create a taste of heaven on earth (what I call the dress rehearsal for the Wedding Banquet at the end of the age). This is a nuts and bolts handbook on how to work with artists, the physical atmosphere, guest care teams, etc.
Who are your influences, sources of inspiration or favorite authors / artists? My source of inspiration for this book was my own Creative Arts Team. They are an amazing group of leaders in music, drama, film, script writing, set design, etc. I have also been inspired by Nancy Beach from Willow Creek. Her endorsement is on this book along with endorsements from Michael Card, Robert Webber, Leith Anderson, Robb Redman, Craig Blomberg, and Sally Morganthaler.
Anything else you'd like readers / listeners to know: If you are a Senior Pastor, Executive Pastor, Youth Pastor, Worship Pastor, Worship Leader, Artist (music, drama, painting, sculpture, visual arts, film, set design, craftsmanship), Usher, Greeter, or in charge of your Nursery, then this book is for you.
