BBBeesFernandina Beach, FLAge: 55-65Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5Backs up theories with scriptureOctober 9, 2012BBBeesFernandina Beach, FLAge: 55-65Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5This is very well written & easy to read. It took me a while to finish, because of the length, but was well worth every minute. What I liked the most, was the way he broke everything down & looked at each event in detail. It really helped me to understand what the Word says. And everything is backed up with scripture.....not just one but many scriptures! I marvel at how someone can take all of those prophecies apart, help us understand them & then put it back together. Thank you for writing this book!
DennisMontrose, COAge: 55-65Gender: male5 Stars Out Of 5Very good presentationSeptember 19, 2012DennisMontrose, COAge: 55-65Gender: maleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5Bible prophecy is a topic that often separates Christians. But more than 27% of the Bible was prophetic at the time it was written. The most important thing has to do with the approach that is taken. This book definitely approaches prophecy from a literal perspective. Since all prophecy up to this time has been fulfilled literally in all details, then all unfulfilled prophecy will also be fulfilled literally in all details.
This book approaches prophecy that way. It is written from a pre-millennial return of Christ, and a pre-tribulational rapture of the church. Although the other views are listed, and discussed. Mark gives ample Scriptural support to his position.
I recently read "Things to Come" by E. Dwight Pentecost. This book agrees with the conclusions of that book. The main difference is the audience targeted. While the Pentecost book is written for the scholar. "The End" is written for the layperson. it is filled with lots of charts and Scripture passages. This is an easy read for the layperson that is of the literal, pre-mil, pre-trib position. I highly recommend it.
david1 Stars Out Of 5biblical interpretation poorly doneSeptember 2, 2012davidQuality: 1Value: 1Meets Expectations: 1this book, as is typical of its type, makes minced meat of biblical prophecy and "end times" subjects. if you want a heap of superstitious garbled up mixed up biblical interpretation that gets it all wrong on this subject of prophecy and end times, then by all means read this book and get swallowed up in the cult of evangelical end times speculation.
for some works on the subject that are sober, sane and treat the biblical subject with the sanity that it deserves, try instead: In Gods Time by Craig Hill; Revelation and The End of All Things by Craig Koester; Plowshares and Pruning Hooks by D.Brent Sandy; The Momentous Event by W.H. Grier

What had I gotten myself into? However, from the first page I knew it was amazing. The author, Mark Hitchcock has a tremendous way with words. Don't be intimidated ... it is well worth your time and effort.
I feel that Hitchcock's attempt to provide this generation with a comprehensive resource on the end times have been accomplished.
Before I break down the benefits of this book, please let me state that I am in no way a scholar or theologian - even as a hobby. I am the type of Christian who has read my bible and spent my time focusing on how it applies to my life today instead of what might be in the future. I have read books like Revelation but choose not to delve into it too much for the complexities it brings. I have stood in the camp of 'it will happen the way God wants it to happen anyway'. I review this book based on that stepping stool.
I found Mark's book well written and very easy to read. It did not feel like a textbook. He has the ability to bring the deep doctrine of bible eschatology down to an easy to follow level for anyone. The terminology and descriptions are written for the average layman.
Hitchcock starts at the beginning, (why should I study the end times?) and takes us through scripture to the end - (what is eternity like?). He explains all relevant opinions and slants until he has walked you through to The End. Hitchcock also has done an excellent job of explaining his side and his beliefs alongside the opposing views. I really appreciate that. It allows you to intelligently make up your own mind as opposed to just accepting his.
The book is filled with scriptural references and charts to help you along in the understanding of the complexities of the end times. It was a joy to read - even if it is the size of an encyclopaedia!
Thank you Mark for tackling this huge issue and teaching me about The End.
This book was provided to me by Tyndale House Publishers at no charge in exchange for my honest review. I was not required to rate it positively.
