This translation brings back to mind many of the concepts I learned from Dr. Walter C. Kaiser when I was a student at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School in the early 1970's. By understanding the continuity, as opposed to the alleged discontinuity, between the Old and New Testaments and recognizing the single "Promise-Plan" of God (as Dr. Kaiser refers to it), one can more fully appreciate the breadth of God's purposes for both His Jewish and Gentile people. This translation helps me to see that continuity more clearly within the text itself, and therefore to rejoice in God's loyal love given to us through trust in His Messiah, Jesus. I highly recommend it.
This is replacement for one that mysteriously disappeared from my home. I live on a tight budget. I was devastated when I could not find it anywhere. I was so delighted to find it on your website, and even more delighted when it was a featured product on sale.
The Complete Jewish Bible is a wonderful easy reading translation of God's Word. It reads very nicely, with the words flowing smoothly, reading almost like a very good story--not choppy like the some other translations of the Bible.
It is also nice to have a translation of the Bible which is closer to the original meanings of the Hebrew, Greek, in a nice readable English translation for those of us who never had the benefit of attending a University on those languages.
Thanks so much for making this Bible available--and at such a wonderful affordable price.
It is a nice compact, easy to handle size, and the print size is pretty decent, as I wear glasses, and have fibromyalgia which affects my ability to see. I usually go for large print--but was not able afford that version. I was pleasantly surprised by the nice crisp type and print size, finding that I could read it very easily.
Overall, this is a good Bible for the price, and if you are looking for a copy of the Jewish Scriptures that is easy to understand and reads with a flowing narrative--this is your Bible.
I really love this translation. I am not personally Messianic, but I am simply a Christian looking for a deeper understanding of Jewish terms and culture. I also wanted a bible in chronological order to read straight through for history's sake. I am not educated in the Hebrew language whatsoever, and so I put off getting a Jewish bible for that reason for a while because I thought I'd be getting in over my head, and I don't have a lot of time to devote to memorizing things.
I feel silly now, this bible is easy to navigate and totally accessible to the common modern Christian. The translation is simple and concise,I don't know what to compare it to, but probably not a formal equivalence like NASB, ESV, or NRSV. It's probably more like the NIV or NLT if I had to guess. I like them all really, so this is fine in my opinion.
I cannot five this book 5 stars because the spine is really flimsy for a hardcover. Very thin and brittle. The first one I recieved had a split in it upon arrival, so I was promptly issued a replacement (CBD was very gracious about this). I re-inforced the ends of the spine with packing tape, so it should fare alright for light home use. I see that the price recently dropped a few dollars on this, which honestly is what I think it should be worth, it's rather cheap and creaky. It's not one for frequent church trips, children, or missions ;)
But if you're looking for an introductory bible into Jewish roots this is a good start!
