In an age of doubt, it's rare to find Christians who can speak clearly and boldly about the reasons for their faith. Douglas Jacoby is one of those rare Christians. As an international teacher for over 25 years, he has shared the vital truths found in Compelling Evidence for God and the Bible with thousands of people in all walks of life and in dozens of cultures.
Jacoby's book is an easy-to-read apologetics work that will
- show readers the evidence that there is a God
- help readers see the unique role of the Bible as the Word of God
- encourage readers to make an informed decision about whether to follow Jesus
Compelling Evidence for God and the Bible is especially suited for nonbelievers, anyone new to the faith, and believers who want a better understanding of their faith and how to explain it to others. For readers who want solid reasons why the Christian faith is not only true but also reasonable, this book is the place to begin.
--Craig S. Keener, author of The IVP Background Commentary, professor of New Testament, Asbury Theological Seminary

Very Inspiring and encouraging.July 19, 2012GordonLubbock, TXAge: 45-54Gender: maleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5This is a great book for everyone no matter your background or personal belief. Dr. Jacoby writes in such a way as to enlighten the reader to make connections through truth and reason. This book will help you to understand the mystery of God more. Though it is not possible to capture the true essence of God, nor prove beyond a shadow of doubt God does exist. It does however, challenge the readers to think and to understand. You will discover the source of doubts and better still, be prepared to be amazed and encouraged as you search and find real answers.

It has a natural flow to it, yet it still covers all important topics systematically. It explores reasonable doubts and false pretenses alike.
There is a lot of thoroughly researched information there, with extensive bibliography and footnotes. At the same time it is quite light hearted and manages to avoid being too preachy.
I lent it to my neighbour who has been seeking God on and off, and she said it left her without excuses.
I only wish there was a German translation of it to give to my family.

I appreciate Doug's balanced approach. It's difficult to win people over if you are so busy blasting them for having questions. It's not the questions that are the problem it's how one reacts to them. "After all, people do not reject the bible because it contradicts itself but because it contradicts them" - from Appendix C.

It is a good book for those who are trying to come to faith, for those who seek to know why Christianity is a rational religion to choose over other religions, and for those want to believe with their mind, as well as their heart.
Jacoby starts the book by addressing why people do not believe in God, and helps the reader see clearly the discrepancies and weaknesses of atheism, without disparaging the athiest. He deals with such concerns as why there is pain and suffering in the world.
Then Jacoby addresses compelling evidences for the reality of God, building a great case for belief based on more than feeling or tradition. This section lists not one, but an array of reasons for belief.
Other parts of the book deal with the trustworthiness of the Bible, Jesus and whether he was in fact the Son of God, and the plausibility of the resurrection. For those who have always felt that these were just things to take on faith, there is great food for thought here on which to strengthen conviction. For those who would like to be able to engage in discussions with skeptics and adherents to other religions, this information is invaluable.
One of the most interesting chapters in the book deals with a brief comparison of Christianity with other religions. Jacoby lists 12 significant differences between Christianity and major world faiths. In a world where tolerance and respect has morphed into a purview that everyone is right in their search for spirituality, Jacoby makes some very clear distinctions between religions. I don't know of another source that summarizes these differences so concisely. It is definitely eye opening.
In closing, I would like to say that I would like to keep my copy of "Compelling Evidence..." but I probably won't have it for long. My husband gave away our last copy, and today I tried to lend my new copy to a Chinese friend who is struggling with faith. It is just something you want to share with others because you know how greatly it can benefit them, as it has inspired you.
