Not Universally Usable
July 15, 2011
Although this book may be helpful to some, it was not useful for me. It contained specific information about communions that are not universally believed. For example, who can take communion and how communion is received. The general concepts are acceptable. There is too much attention paid to the washing of the feet and none about Christ's sacrifice, which is the whole point. I took this to be a simple difference between denominations. Some churches may find this acceptable. However, I can not use it in my Anglo-Catholic Sunday School. I did like the format of a workbook with questions and puzzles, but some of the answers were, from my perspective, inaccurate. Jesus died for our sins - a New Covenant. Yes, he loves us, but that's not the right answer to the quiz on page 19. I can't give that to my kids. The best thing this book did was make me realize that I have to create my own packet on Holy Communion for my kids that can be used in our denomination.
Thank you for the opportunity to respond to this question.
