I have read several organizing books and the approach described in this book sounds like it would work very well. If you have been struggling with clutter for years and never feel like you can conquer it this book is for you! I was a little skeptical about a 5 day clean before I read the book. After finishing the book I believe the authors lay out a comprehensive plan of attack that would be extremely effective. I love the book takes it past the 5 day clean and shows how to keep it clutter free once you get your house organized.

I was given this book by the publisher in exchange for this honest review. All thoughts/opinions are my own.

5 days to a clutter free house by Sandra Felton and Marsha Sims

I agreed to read this book and post my review in exchange for getting a copy of the book.

At first I thought why would I want to read this: I don't want a perfect house. I do have some things lying around, my house is lived in. Till we had frozen pipes and didn't learn of the leaks til weeks later one Friday night in the cold and we couldn't find 'dope' tape for the pipes.

It's dark and cold out so to the store and I stayed home and tugged things out of the Bermuda triangle and found many rolls of the tape. Nothing got put back in the cabinet. Instead I got a few boxes and sorted out things as I went through them-I needed an ok from hubby to toss some things but at least all the plumbing things were in one box, all electronics in another and all electrical in the last box.

Wow this book has come in handy in keeping the clutter fit and trim. It's a battle but we are basically orderly people and will strive to be better with the tools. Chapters at the end of the book were the most helpful as I did not want to enlist the help from others. It only took me 5 hours and a lot of things were screws and nails, then another 1/2 hour for hubby to go through what I had sorted and for them to decide to toss things.

Now we can reach in and actually see whats in the tote box. I learned a lot of new things to do also in other rooms that I will put to the test next week-day before garbage day!

Last month was organizing month, but I certainly didn't get organized in a month! We are constantly trying to figure out new ways to keep ourselves, our home, our children and all our stuff organized. After reading this book, 5 Days to a Clutter Free House, by Sandra Felton and Marsha Sims, I think our biggest problem is the up keep. I'd have to be on my children 24/7 for them to pick up and put away everything they touch each day; and I grow weary of doing so and give up all too often rather than keeping on, keeping on.

5 Days to a Clutter Free House provides a step-by-step plan of action to help you get your house organized in less than a week, as the title suggests. It may seem impossible if you are buried in a cluttered mess but the authors use the approach of gathering a team of people to help you and they give you tips on how to gather that team together too. Since we are a family of ten I plan on getting the whole family working on our problem areas so we can get our house in order before my mom arrives in a little over two weeks. Think drill Sargent!

The first part of the book is about "Getting it Under Control" and the second part is maintaining the order you created in just five days.

I liked the plan of action the authors provided. Many of their suggestions are very similar to what we do when doing a major cleaning. We get the children to make 3-4 piles: toys, clothes, garbage and papers/school work or books depending on what we are items are laying around. We usually use bags, but I like the idea of boxes. New boxes to stack and keep things in order as you put every thing back in its place_seems like a small expense to pay for order in the home.

I liked the biblical basis of where order comes from and we often quote it to our children, "God is not a God of chaos but order", after all he didn't hang the trees upside down, right?

I enjoyed reading the list of what disorganized people tend to be like in the preface of the book_page 9_if you want to look it up to see if you fit the description. Then later on page 27 they say this, "Messies tend to be perfectionists at heart." Sound like you? Don't worry you aren't alone!

I think this book would be an encouragement to anyone dealing with clutter as it does give a solid plan of how to create order out of the clutter. I think the key to maintaining order is creating new habits, as the second half of the book recommends.

These ladies say that disorganized people can recover. They're both recovered disorganized people. Glory, Hallelujah! There's hope for me yet.

I'm wondering how on earth they expect me to do all this in just five days. They don't. You make this a team effort.

You could make it a super team effort if you'd like. You know other people who live cluttered lives. Use these friends and family members to create a team who will go from five days in one house, the next five days in another, and keep it going until you all have clutter free homes.

Don't squabble about whose home gets done first. Draw straws, pick a number, roll the dice. Whatever floats your boat.

Just remember, it doesn't end after five days. The second half of the book will guide you through maintenance so that you can keep the clutter away.

Done is better than perfect. That little motto along with prayer will help you during your five days of major decluttering. BTW, don't forget to smile.

Sandra Felton and Marsha Sims in their new book, "5 Days to a Clutter Free House" published by Revell gives us Quick, Easy Ways to Clear Up Your Space.

From the back cover: A clean, organized, and restful home is only 5 days away.

If you've picked up this book, you want to reduce the clutter in your home, organize what's left, and keep it that way. But does the sheer scope of the project give you an anxiety attack? Don't let fear stop you! Organizing and time management experts Sandra Felton and Marsha Sims show you how, with the right game plan and a healthy dose of adrenaline, you're just 5 days from your goal.

With their proven team-based approach, even the most overwhelming de-cluttering job becomes doable. Section one shows you how to de-clutter, with each day of the week focused on one reachable goal. Section two shows you how to cultivate time-tested habits that keep your house in the clean, well-ordered state you've just achieved. You'll even learn how to deal with common obstacles such as

    *filing

    *storage needs

    *health issues

    *space restrictions

    *the car

    *even family sabotage!

So what are you waiting for? The home of your dreams is just a week away.

Some of us are what we call "Messies". We find it very difficult to throw something away now and find we will regret it later even though what we seem to regret is throwing the thing away in the first place and is now contributing to the clutter in our home. To our rescue ride Sandra Felton and Marsha Sims. Sandra Felton, The Organizer Lady®, is a pioneer in the field of organizing. She is the founder and president of Messies Anonymous. Marsha Sims is an international speaker and lecturer on time management and organization. She is the founder and president of Sort-It-Out, Inc. and Clutter-Free University. These two women have divided the task into two sections: Section One: Getting It Under Control and Section Two: Keep The Good Life Going. The good news is if we use their advice we can have our home back free from the clutter we have accumulated in five days. It is hard to believe but it is possible. Then we can invite our friends over and show off our wonderful home while we are entertaining again. Wouldn't that just be wonderful? To bring this plan to fruition we need "5 Days to a Clutter-Free House". You might want to hold it in a special place on your shelf you might be referring to it again and again. This is also a great book to give as gifts to family and friends. They will think of you every time they put it to use. I recommend it highly.
