Drew is caught in a world of light - just inches away from the dark
What if...there was a world beyond our vision, a world just fingertips beyond our reach? What if...our world wasnt beyond their influence?
Tragedy and heartache seem to be waiting for Drew Carter at every turn, but college offers Drew a chance to start overuntil an accident during a physics experiment leaves him blind and his genius friend, Benjamin Berg, missing.
As his sight miraculously returns, Drew discovers that the accident has heightened his neuron activity, giving him skills and sight beyond the normal man. When he begins to observe fierce invaders that no one else can see, he questions his own sanity, and so do others. But is he insane or do the invaders truly exist?
With help from Sydney Carlyle, a mysterious and elusive girl who offers encouragement through her faith, Drew searches for his missing friend, Ben, who seems to hold the key to unlocking this mystery. As the dark invaders close in, will he find the truth in time?
CHUCK BLACK, a former F-16 fighter pilot and tactical combat communications engineer, is the author of thirteen novels, including the popular Kingdom Series and The Knights of Arrethtrae series. Chuck and his wife, Andrea, have six children and live in North Dakota.
"The invisible world gets a makeover in Chuck Blacks Cloak of the Light. Often
reading like a thriller, this fresh take on the unseen inspires and entertains in
equal measure. Reader of all ages will enjoy this one."
Shannon Dittemore, author of the Angel Eyes trilogy
"Bring on the battle! Cloak of Light is a journey you wont quickly forget. Angels
and demons clash in an epic story line laden with spiritual warfare. I loved
Heather Burch, author of Halfling series
"Over the last several years, my family and I have come to appreciate Chuck
Blacks works, and Cloak of Light is no different. Cloak of Light is set in the
modern world rather than the ancient times of the Kingdom Series. We have
come to expect two features from a Chuck Black work: allegory based in
spiritual matters and illumination of the spiritual warfare that happens around
us every day. Many young people long for adventure, and this book has it.
What I appreciate most is that adventure and spiritual battle are presented as
common rather than special. As Christians, our adventure is in living for our
Lord, and this is what Chuck Black brings out so deftly in his allegories. This
is a great book for all young people, especially young men."

Fay Mary FoxsAge: Under 185 Stars Out Of 5A great book set in modern times!June 20, 2016Fay Mary FoxsAge: Under 18Quality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5I really enjoyed reading this book. It is one of my favorite books set in modern times. Chuck Black did an excellent job! Angels ,fallen angels, and a gripping plot! This story keeps you from not wanting to put the book down. Cloak of Light is the best out of the first two books in the series. I can't wait to read the third one! I would highly recommend this book to anyone!
Iaci Flanders5 Stars Out Of 5Where's the next book???October 3, 2014Iaci FlandersQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5Chuck Black is the type of author that keeps one reading and wanting more at the end of his books. He knows how to tell a tale, how to put in enough action to keep the story line moving, and how to help the reader connect to his characters. Loved this first novel in his new series....so need the second book to come out....want to know what happens next!

Then I looked closer at the cover and realized that it wasnt a stand alone book (silly me!!) but the first book of the Wars of the Realm series!
And what an awesome start is waswith well developed characters, an interesting story that opened up a mysterious unseen world of invaders, and YES even battles I was hooked (and I got this book for my husband). I am definitely looking forward to the rest of the series! We are also planning to check out more from the author Chuck Black, because, Yes, I was that impressed with my first book of his!!
I really appreciate the authors note and the readers guide at the end of the book. The Readers Guide explains the biblical framework from which much of the speculation for the novel is derived. I hope you find it informative and helpful in your own investigation of understanding spiritual warfare.
As a wife and mom deep in the seemingly mundane, repetitive tasks of parenting and education, I appreciated this book not only as a great read but also as a needed reminder and encouragement of what is important in this life! Thank you, Chuck Black. :)

KaraAge: 45-54Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5Book Review, "Cloak of the Light"August 25, 2014KaraAge: 45-54Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5Cloak of the Light, by Chuck Black, is a spectacular book. It is filled with both tragedy and triumph at every turn and opens the readers eyes to the possibilities of the spiritual realm.
When Drew Carter loses his father at age twelve, his life changes forever. While his mother struggles to support them, even with the help of his fathers friend, Jake, Drew attempts to rebuild his life. Then a move across country makes it more difficult. When Drew begins anew in college, he is relieved. But an accident in the physics lab with his friend, Ben, leaves him blind and his friend missing. He believes life is essentially over for him, but his sight returns, bringing the ability to see spiritual beings that no one else can see. Drew and his friend, Sydneya Christian trying to encourage Drew, search for Ben in an attempt to solve the mystery of the spiritual invaders.
I enjoyed this book very much. In fact, it was hard to put it down! It is action-packed and full of suspense. I loved Sydney and found myself applauding her for her choices, difficult though they might be, and Reverend Ray and his family were also much of an inspiration.
I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys Christian suspense novels.
I received this book free from the publisher and was not required to write a positive review.

Was he going crazy? He'd seen movies of people, some of them very famous and intelligent, who experienced hallucinations. How real were they to those people? Drew had never been so unnerved or scared in his life. If he wasn't crazy, then these invaders were real. And if they were invisible to humans, how extensive was their power? Could they read his thoughts_or perhaps even control them? He closed his eyes_ If only he could close out the fear as well."
Book: Cloak of the Light by Chuck Black, Multomah Publishers, 2014
Genre: Supernatural/Speculative Fiction
Target Audience: Boys 16+
Subjects: Angels and Demons, Death of a loved one, Friendship, Faith, Love
Summary: Life just falls apart after his dad's death, completely falls apart. The only thing left keeping Drew sane is the times he escapes into the wilderness with his dad's friend. With this help he manages to survive the rest of high school. In college things seem to go well - for a time. Then an experiment goes wrong, Ben vanishes and Drew_ well, something strange happened to him. He's not sure what, but starting with the moment right before everything exploded he has been seeing things - some kind of invaders. He doesn't know who they are or how they got here but one thing is for sure: they want nothing but death and destruction for all mankind.
Notes: The first in the Wars Of The Realm series, Cloak Of The Light speculates "What if an unbeliever could see the spiritual forces in the world around us? How would they interpret what they saw? And how would they respond to it?". Drew is not a believer and does not appear to know much about Christianity but a girl he is very attracted to is a Christian and gives just a hint of truth to Drew. By the end of the story he still has not realized that what he is seeing are angels and demons. The story is clearly building up throughout the series rather than giving answers in the first book. He does learn quite a bit about Christian principles of love and service from a church he gets connected with. The biggest spiritual content benefit to this book is the end. After the story is finished there is a very thorough discussion guide with verses explaining where each of the elements come from and pointing readers straight to the truth of Scripture. With that guide, my rating is a 5, without it a 3. I suspect the series overall will be a 5, just not book 1 by itself.
Spiritual Content Recommendation Scale: 5/5
Ephesians 6:12 - For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.
