In light of her father's death, Mariah Malone sends a letter that will forever alter the lives of her family. When Slade Donovan, strong willed and eager for vengeance, shows up on her front porch, Mariah is not ready to hear his truths: her father's farm, the only home she's ever known, was bought with stolen gold. I enjoy stories that have tough heroes, the kind that raise your hackles and make you fall in love with them all at the same time. And heroines that are sweet, yet feisty, too. Claiming Mariah has just such a pair. Slade Donovan is a bitter man. Growing up, his family never had much, and it was all on account of a man named Seth Malone. When Malone passes away, his daughter, Mariah, sends a letter to the Donovans that changes the course of Slades lifeand hers. When Slade comes to claim the Lazy M Ranch, the only home Mariah has ever known as his revenge payment, he finds more than he bargains for. When it becomes apparent that something under-handed has been happening at the ranch, Slade sticks close to keep an eye on things. But in so doing, he encounters the unexpectedacceptance, forgiveness, and love. But will it be enough for him to make things right between himself and Godand Mariah?

Pam Hillman writes a wonderful story dealing with the subject of forgiveness, which is the very thing that God offers to each of us on a daily basis. I totally fell in love with Claiming Mariah and cant wait to read more by Ms. Hillman!

When her father dies, Mariah realizes that her family's ranch was bought with stolen gold, and the rightful owner is on his way to claim his property. Mariah and new owner Slade must deal with a cattle rustling scheme as they wait for Slade's family to arrive.

I like to read a good western once in a while, and this book did not disappoint. There was plenty of action and romance to keep the plot moving along, and I would like to read more by this author.

Claiming Mariah is one of those books that will draw you into the story. Mariah Malone lives on a nice ranch and her life is turned upside down due to the events unfolded after her fathers death. Mariah sends a letter which causes Slade Donovan, a strong-willed and angry man, to show up on her doorstep with news that changes everything for Mariah and her family. It turns out that Mariahs father bought the ranch with gold that was stolen from Slades family and he is set on exacting revenge even if it means that Mariah and her family will become homeless. Meanwhile, Slade isnt the only one who is after something from Mariah. A wealthy landowner makes Mariah a deal. He will take care of all her financial problems if Mariah will marry him. What will Mariah decide? Will Slade take control of the ranch and throw Mariah and her family on the streets? Will Slade and Mariah come to an agreement that will benefit both?

This is a book where you know the main characters will fall in love before the end, but it seems like a "no-way" situation. Mariah struggles to keep her deceased father's ranch operating when Slade and his brother show up and lay claim to the property. Our heroine is distressed not only for herself, but because she needs to provide for her grandmother and sister, Amanda who is back East. Add Marian's persistent suitor, the unexplained loss of cattle, ranch hands that seem a little questionable, and the flavor of the Old West and you have a memorable read.
