A mass-market paperback edition of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, book two in the classic fantasy series, The Chronicles of Narnia. This edition features black-and-white illustrations by the original illustrator, Pauline Baynes, and eight pages of stills from the epic motion picture. Read it before you watch the movie!
Four adventurous siblings—Peter, Susan, Edmund, and Lucy Pevensie—step through a wardrobe door and into the land of Narnia, a land frozen in eternal winter and enslaved by the power of the White Witch. But when almost all hope is lost, the return of the Great Lion, Aslan, signals a great change . . . and a great sacrifice.
Step through the wardrobe and into The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, the second book in C. S. Lewis's classic fantasy series, which has been enchanting readers of all ages for over sixty years. This is a stand-alone novel, but if you want to return to Narnia, read The Horse and His Boy, the third book in The Chronicles of Narnia.
Supports the Common Core State Standards.
Clive Staples Lewis (1898-1963) was one of the intellectual giants of the twentieth century and arguably one of the most influential writers of his day. His most distinguished and popular accomplishments include Out of the Silent Planet, The Great Divorce, The Screwtape Letters, and the universally acknowledged classics The Chronicles of Narnia. But for me, it really is nice for her to have the larger, color illustrations to look at as I read the original version of the story to her. I am very happy with this purchase & I do recommend it to anyone with a young child getting into the world of Narnia.
and once again, ChristianBook shipped this out super fast at no extra cost. Very pleased with the service of this website
Heidi Jordan4 Stars Out Of 5August 22, 2009Heidi JordanThis is a simpler version for young children that seems to stay true to the meaning and intent of C.S. Lewis. My 4 year-old daughter loved it and she loved the illustrations.
Mrs. Terry LaFrance1 Stars Out Of 5July 8, 2009Mrs. Terry LaFranceBefore you order this book, there is one particular line in this version that you should be aware of. My daughter loves this story, and I cherish teaching her how Aslan symbolizes Jesus, our Savior who died for us. But the author of this particular book chose a disappointing and inaccurate portrayal of the powerful lion. After Edmond has been wounded in battle, and is getting well-deserved praise for destoying the White Witch's wand, Aslan is quoted as saying "Even I might be a statue (if Edmond had not destroyed her wand)." Aslan, as Jesus, is all-powerful and would have never been in any type of danger of falling to the witch, just as Jesus is always and forever victorious over Satan, and never at any point, was in danger of losing this eternal battle. If you're looking for a version of this story true to the gospel after which it was modeled, I'd look for a different book than the one by Hiawyn Oram.
