Some claim these are "dated" since they use costumed actors for the Narnia talking animals instead of more elaborate computer generated creatures. But in my family's opinion that made them more endearing and also made them appealing to even my younger children (for which the recent theatrical releases proved a bit too intense). Also, these more closely follow the books than the recent theatrical releases.

This production does not have the computerized graphics and such that Disney has, but stays truer to the books than the Disney productions. Although not as "entertaining and dramatic" as the Disney version, if you love a movie that sticks close to the original book, this set is definitely for you. My children, 7 and 4, love this version and I feel is much better for them to watch than the Disney versions - especially to get the feel of what C.S. Lewis was trying to portray in the book series.

Yes, This production was done in the '80's, but it was a made for TV performance on the BBC. It is more of a stage play feeling than the high tech wizardry of the current Disney flick. It is also extremely accurate in carrying the story line and dialogue of the C.S.Lewis classics than the Disney version. In LWW the professor's reasoning on Lucy's account of Narnia is the Lewis "Lord, Liar, Lunatic" response...missing in the newer version. The admonition to Susan on the use of her bow will be a drastic change in the new release Prince Caspian. If you love Narnia and all it's Christian themes you will enjoy this. If you like the Mary Martin version of JM Barrie's "Peter Pan" you won't mind this old TV play production...it is what it is. Cast of the Silver Chair includes Tom Baker of Dr.Who fame and Gabrielle Anwar of Burn Notice.

We watched one the the shows and it is so cheesy that we just turned it off. You can tell it was made in the 80s. Not the best buy.
