A young boy discovers the depth of the Creator's love and forgiveness as he accompanies his grandmother to deliver Christmas gifts. Earlier in the year the three young men who receive the gifts cruelly hurt both grandmother and grandson, pushing them down in the snow and taking their coats and Grandmother's moccasins. Grandmother labored through the year to produce moccasins for the young men that were of extraordinary design and loveliness. In her giving and through her forgiveness she draws the young men into the compassion of God's love. Walking back through the trees, her grandson realizes that the same love has made the two of them truly free.

Ray Buckley weaves a touching story of forgiveness in Christmas Moccasins. A Native American, Buckley tells stories of his heritage that illustrate the Creator’s love for all.
In this story, a young boy and his grandmother are beaten by three people and robbed of their coats; Grandmother’s moccasins are also stolen. Instead of revenge, the grandmother spends months creating three very special pairs of moccasins which she presents to the offenders on Christmas Eve.
The three young folks are surprised to receive a friendly visit someone they had hurt. When she presented the gifts, each in turn, Grandmother simply said, “I wanted to wish you a Merry Christmas. God bless you.” The recipients were speechless. As the text says, “There was no need for words. None were spoken.”
The illustrations, by the author, are bold and colorful and reflect a Native American spirit.
What I Like: Everything. This is a touching story told in a unique fashion.
What I Dislike: Nothing.
Overall Rating: Excellent.

To me this book is great for children. It shows his understanding of children and expresses love and forgiveness. I think all will agree we need more of that in this world. One cannot go through life without getting hurt in some manner and we need to teach how to deal with it without anger.
