Product Description

Find the truth about Christmas and the Christian's response to a culture that seems to be declaring war on traditions and the Bible

Christmas - with its holiday lights, bright packages, and nativity displays - has become a controversial frontline in the increasingly intolerant culture wars. Whether or not to say "Merry Christmas" or "Happy Holidays," how to refer to the tree, and just how "biblical" Christmas may actually be is debated online, during city council meetings, and in courthouses each year.

Filled with family get-togethers, office parties, breaks from school and festivities, Christmas should be a time of peace and love - not arguments over who can celebrate what and where or when. So why has so much controversy clouded this sacred holiday? Nativity scenes are nixed and even the word "Christmas" is considered offensive by some. Get the facts behind the history, relevance, and biblical connections of this beloved holiday:
  • Is it a bunch of pagan symbols or traditions "Christianized" for the celebration?
  • Why is a Christian concept of Christmas so important for those who don't believe in Jesus?
  • Most may say Christmas is about the birth of Jesus, but are we truly worshipping Him or just celebrating the earthly gifts we give ourselves?

The ambience of this book is absolutely amazing. It is laid out beautifully, and the pictures are absolutely gorgeous. The organization of the book is quite logical, and I believe that anything that the reader wished to know would be readily available. And the information is Biblical, conservative, and basically accurate. I learned a few things--especially in the first half of the book.

Speaking of the first half of the book, that was my favorite portion. I was pleased to see a conservative Christian who encouraged Christians to celebrate the true meaning of Christmas. This was also the portion where historical accuracies and inaccuracies were pointed out. Most of them I knew, but even I found a few surprises along the way.

I only have one issue with the book. There were times I felt that the author was a little too dogmatic at times. I believe that the Bible is 100 percent inspired, and I believe it can be taken at its word. However, I know for a fact that God uses the natural order of things to bring about His purposes. I also believe that Christmas has become more than a Christian holiday, and I see no problem with celebrating other aspects of it. I'm not saying that the author has told Christians not to celebrate the other portions of the holiday, but I felt that it was stressed that our decor should reflect the real reason for the season. I honestly have no problem with the other fun parts of this holiday season, and we do not have manger scenes is every area where decorations are displayed.

I do not recommend that anyone sit down and read this book in one sitting. It is a resource, and it should be used as such. It is well-written and scholarly, but it also is quite real. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a book to help them find the reality of the Christmas story.

I was sent a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. I was not financially compensated, and all opinions are 100 percent mine.

Honestly, I read this book rather quickly. It was pleasing to see how these authors connected Christmas to the Bible, and gave the scriptures for readers to read it for themselves. I was not able to reference my Bible as I read, but you better bet your booty that I will the next time I read it.

With all of the hoopla going on with Duck Dynasty, Phil Robertson, and A&E, I think it is very important that people go to their Bibles and read everything for themselves. This applies to everything!

The saying you hear at Christmas time, Jesus is the Reason for the Season, is right. Christians believe this, and will stand their ground when disputed. Take this book for instance! There is a War on Christmas. There are lots of people wanting to take "Christ" out of Christmas, are they non-believers or just wanting to be politically correct? Believe it or not, sometimes being politically correct means that you are not proclaiming your faith.

This book proves to me that there are people out there that aren't afraid to put their beliefs out there, make a stand for them, and try to reach those that are in doubt.

The different sections of this book are:

What about Christmas? - Confusion and Misconceptions - It's All Baby Jesus - How Christmas Came to Be - The War on Christmas

Read this! Study the timeline! Study the facts! Study the Bible right alongside this book!

Let's keep Christ in Christmas! If we keep Christ in our day, everyday, then why should Christmas be any different?

I received a free copy of this book in exchange for my honest opinion.

As we get ready for Christmas it easy to forget about the true meaning of Christmas.  I am a Sunday School Teacher and I found out Jesus is second to Santa Clause, and these are children whose parents grew up in church.  I wanted to bang my head to the wall. Then I received this book for free.  It was fascinating.  I began to read how we lost the true meaning of Christmas believers and non believers.  It was an eye opener.  Bodie Hodge speaks about the Christmas Sermon that really brought conviction to my heart.  Their is also in Chapter 13 that talks about the baby Jesus and the need for him.  Every chapter brings you to a clearer understanding of Christmas and how it is more than gifts, decorations.  It is about God and His Son Jesus.  The miracle of salvation.  The end to a 400 year silence and Gods endless love.  Bodie Hodge Opened my eyes to more than just a war on Christmas.  Their is a war and Christians need to be prepared, I truly recommend this book. I did give this book to some of my friends and loved ones God Bless.

The full title of this book by Bodie Hodge is The War on Christmas: Battles in Faith, Tradition and Religious Expression. The chapter I was assigned to was Chapter 12. Chapter 12 is called "The Creator in a Manger". Sadly this was not my favorite chapter of the book. LOL! However, I will still try and give you an idea of what it was about. Basically, the author is discussing how from the moment Jesus was born the idea of Christmas was being attacked. Jesus was born in a manger because there was no room for him in the Inn. Later his parents had to flee to Egypt with their babe because an evil king was killing all baby boys to try and eliminate Jesus, his rival. With all this persecution and discomfort surrounding the first Christmas(es), the author thinks it is no real surprise that Christmas is fought against today as well. He quotes John 3:19-20 to back this up. I agreed with everything he wrote and shared, but I found other chapters much more interesting! I did read this book and enjoyed it! There were things I learned, things that saddened me and things that challenged me.

Beautiful pictures, along with short chapters that cover a wide range of topics within the story of Christmas, and filled a lot of background and detail make this an interesting book for those who want much more clarity on what the Bible says. On the other hand, some of it was repetitive and could get a bit boring. Perhaps it is simply because I learned the story of Jesus from the Bible and have always realized that the songs, movies, cartoons, etc. are a creative retelling rather than a factual documentary. There were bits of info scattered among the chapters that I found interesting, but nothing that I found mind-boggling. I had also hoped it would delve a bit into the current issues over the religious and secular symbols associated with Christmas and why so many are determined to ban the mention of Christmas from the public arena. However, since this was a project from Answers In Genesis, it would be unfair to fault them for not putting an emphasis on that aspect. It was good book, but not great. I would recommend it to someone wanting an extensive look at the facts surrounding the birth of Jesus.
