In his six-session video-based small group bible study pack, The Next Christians, Gabe Lyons cites modern day examples and looks ahead over the next century to how Christians can adapt to a new way of living their faith.
In the wake of the stunning findings that Unchristian, Gabe Lyons and David Kinnemans book, shared with the world about younger generations disenchantment with Christianity, Gabe Lyons became an active participant in many key discussions about the future of Christianity in the U.S. and the world.
The Next Christians small group bible study takes into account recent efforts at Christian renewal, addressing the significant challenges that could undermine the viability of Christianity if the faithful do not employ a completely new outlook. In it, your small group will discuss the ideas presented in the book, The Next Christians.
Lyons looks ahead at how Christianity can and must adapt over the next 100 years, as he optimistically paints a picture of how its best days might lay ahead as a new generation rediscovers their faith in this unprecedented new era in the West.
This Participant Guide features discussion questions, background information on each character, space to write down thoughts, a helpful Leaders Guide, and much more (95 pages). It is designed for use with The Next Christians DVD (included in this pack), features interviews with notable thinkers and leader such as Tim Keller, Andy Crouch, Scot McKnight, Phyllis Tickle and Jon Tyson.

When I came to CBD to pick up extra copies to loan / gift to others I found the DVD and participants guide combo. This was a must for me because I wanted to be able to share it with others more effectively.
The video interviews on the DVD are very good though some are better than others.
The prayers at the end of each section of the participants guide are particularly strong. The quotes from each interview were thought provoking. I found both products quite helpful and made teaching the content of the book much easier.

They heard correctly.
Lyons presents a great case for the end of Christian America. His premise is not earth shattering but his argument is clear and distinct. His articulation of the rationale for its demise places this culturally historic shift not only context but in a framework for a conversation on the end of Christian America. A conversation that beyond the realm of church leadership and academic ideologues is very difficult to engage in.
Two outstanding areas Lyon addresses are first how Christians historic of the last century and current have engaged, disengaged and in many cases ignored culture. His categorization of Christian Culture alone is worth the price of the book.
Secondly optimism oozes from the pages. Optimism of the restores who are moving beyond the pure philanthropy that can be applied devoid of the gospel. An optimism of a group of restores who are dedicated to the often dirty of work of gospel driven counter-cultural living.
A strong critique of Lyons work is that from page one he shows his cards. You can easily see his view point, his criticism of church, the wounds that the church of his upbringing and personal context has inflicted upon him and the direction that he is going to take you over the next several pages. He is well researched in formulating his analysis the pages take you on a journey of getting to his conclusions.
Lyon is able to take what is a difficult issue to address could be discouraging and transforms it into an optimistic battle cry. Not a battle cry to retake the culture but a battle cry for the church to be the church. Living, vibrant, spirit filled and actually engaged in counter-cultural living.
The next Christians is definitely worth the price of admission.
