This book surprised me. It is full of details I had never been known. Well written. Thoughtgful book. Brought up many things to consider. I will be thinking about this book for a long time.

This book serves to remind Christians of the contribution of their faith to society, and how radically poorer this world would be without it. Clearly, the author's point is not to provide 'religious' treatise of Christianity. Instead, this work provides an important scholarly (and objective) examination of Christianity's impact. It is therefore a good corrective to the idea that Christianity is intolerant, obscurantist, irrelevant and ignorant. Highly recommended.

For the audience this is written for, the average person, it is an excellent resource. Want some answers to those who claim Christianity has been harmful to society? This is the book for you.I've owned it for several years and it has been helpful in many ways.For personal reading and enrichment.For added material for a Bible study, such as relating biblical concepts to their actual working out in society over the last 2000 years.For refuting people who claim to know it all and condemn all things Christian, yet don't realize how Christianity has led to the Western World being the most giving and caring for those less fortunate than themselves: through charitable donations, hospitals, higher education, helping bring about the end of slavery and even the concept of elected officials being 'servants' of the public trust.Buy it. Read it. Use it.

Had I known what it was like, I would never had bought it. I'm so angry that I'd rather burn this book than return it!This book is a demeaning, insulting, scholarly tirade against Christianity. Not only does the author presume that God does not exist, but he presumes that "any god" is as good as THE God! He links China's early scientific progress to confucianism, and calls it superior to Christianity. There isn't anything he advances as noble that he doesn't dismiss or demean. Hill denies the deity of Christ and doesn't even call him a prophet (like the Muslim's do). He conveniently glosses over Jesus, and calls only the Roman Catholic and Eastern Orthodox Churches "Christians". He esteems philosophers and early church "fathers" as weightier than our Lord.I hope you aren't interested in paying money to a humanist like this man. His arrogance and pompous aren't jewels for a Christian's crown...
