Until recent times, the Christian worldview dominated American culture. Christian principles and values directed governmental policies and set the standards for judicial, educational, ethical, and social behavior in this country. Not so today. People have become apathetic, even indifferent to immoral behavior that a few decades ago was universally recognized as evil and condemned. Vulgarity and violence floods our entertainment. Cheating is commonplace in our universities, as is corruption and greed in our great corporations.

Prepare Yourself to Engage Today's Secular Culture
The Christian Combat Manual will help Christians respond positively to their faith and the criticism aimed at Christianity.
The Christian worldwide dominated American culture until recent times. Christian principles and values directed governmental policies and set the standards for judicial, educational, ethical, and social behavior in this country. Not so today! People have become apathetic, even indifferent to immoral behavior that a few decades ago was universally recognized as evil and condemned. Vulgarity and violence flood our entertainment industry. Cheating is commonplace in college classrooms, as is corruption and greed in the workplace.
The Christian Combat Manual is carefully constructed to help Christians engage culture by training them to confront and respond to major intellectual and cultural challenges they face today. One chapter encourages the use of the Socratic method-asking "counter-questions" that place the burden of proof on unbelievers, forcing them to defend their beliefs.
The Christian Combat Manual is divided into five parts, as Part One defends the historically accurate accounts of divine revelation while Part Two tackles the raging controversy regarding the theory of evolution. Part Three demonstrates the existence of God, while Part Four centers on the person of Jesus Christ. Part Five focuses specifically on modern issues and secular postmodern doctrines.
Dan Story is a well-known Christian apologist. He is graduate of San Diego Bible College and holds an MA in Christian apologetics from Simon Greenleaf University. He is the author of Defending Your Faith, Engaging the Closed Minded, and Christianity on the Offense. Dan makes his home in Ramona, California.
With vivid, step-by-step explanations of exactly how to do this, Story considers many subjects: the truth and reliability of the Bible; creation vs. evolution; demonstrating the existence of God; knowing Jesus Christ; and modern issues, such as naturalism and postmodernism. Along the way, he gives viable answers to some age-old secular challenges such as Who made God? and Do people who have never heard the Gospel go to Hell? He also clearly explains several difficult concepts, including the definition of apologetics (not anywhere near an apology), and macro vs. micro evolution. Intriguing and significant helps are given: a list of Bible prophecies fulfilled; many samples of secular questions (garnered from Storys own experience) along with valuable Christian answers; an appendix devoted to secular challenges and how to reply to them; and a great deal more.
Besides being a challenging, Christian growth book, The Christian Combat Manual functions well as a macro textbook providing a curriculum for branching out further into the individual subjects relevant to witnessing in todays community. Many books on these individual subjects are listed on Christian Book Previews.com, for example: Taking Back the Good Book by Woodrow Kroll, and What Darwin Didnt Know by Geoffrey Simmons.
Dan Story feels The Christian Combat Manual is his best book yet. His other books definitely lead toward this one. They are also well worth reading: Defending Your Faith, Engaging the Closed Minded, and, Christianity on the Offense. Donna Eggett, Christian Book Previews.com
Ross Chenault5 Stars Out Of 5September 13, 2007Ross ChenaultDan Story reveals once again in his newest bookThe Christian Combat Manual, that he is one of the most practical voices in contemporary apologetics in the Church today. A much needed aspect to defending the faith, in Storys view, is learning offensive tactics for dismantling false assumptions, and the misguided beliefs of those who make it their goal to undermine the truth of historic Christianity. Most of the common challenges to the Christian faith are addressed in the book, including: Establishing the truth and reliability of the Bible; exposing the cracks in evolutionary theory, demonstrating the existence of God and the necessity for an intelligent designer, for the moral law written on our hearts, and by giving solid evidence for the Historical Jesus. The last section of the book centers on engaging the contemporary postmodern culture. Showing how we should respond to political correctness, moral relativism, religious pluralism, the new secular view of tolerance, and other postmodern beliefs. Although this book is an excellent starting place for those new to the study of apologetics, or even new to the faith, it is also for those who have felt equipped in the WHAT and WHY of what they believebut have felt lacking in the HOW aspect of contending for the faith. The unique factor of The Christian Combat Manual that is woven throughoutis the HOW of apologetics. In other words, HOW do I put this knowledge in to practice in my everyday lifenot only in my work place, or around my friends and relatives, but especially in secular academic circles? This added tactical approach, is designed to remove the obstacles and potholes or stumbling blocks on the road to salvation, thereby, lowering the skeptics defenses, and taking them from a closed minded, hard atheistic mindset, to a more open minded soft agnostic mindset. Dan Storys new book accomplishes this taskdirectly, simply, consistently and energetically.
J.A. Vannoy5 Stars Out Of 5September 10, 2007J.A. VannoyI have read all of Dan Storys books and I think The Christian Combat Manual is his best yet. Dan Story is a first-rate Christian apologist with the unique ability to synthesize and summarize complex material and make it more palatable for the average thoughtful layman. This book is an excellent overview of the major themes in Christian apologetics. One strength of this book is that it not only covers some of the central issues of classical apologetics, such as the existence of God, the nature of Jesus Christ, and the reliability of the Bible, but also with many of the most crucial contemporary issues facing the Christian church. In fact, part 5 alone is worth the price of the book. Here, Mr. Story deals with the major world views that set themselves up against Christian TheismNaturalism and Postmodernism. The section on postmodernism also offers a succinct treatment of postmodernisms stepchildrenmoral relativism, political correctness, and multiculturalismand tactics that can be used to refute these false ideologies. This book would be an excellent choice for small group study, high school or college ministry, or for any thoughtful Christian who wants a succinct overview of the reasons Christianity is true, and why the major world view competitors simply do not possess the same explanatory power. If you want to read one book to sum up Dan Storys thought and apologetics ministry, read this one. This book has the potential to be his most useful and practical book yet.
