The Christian Mama's Guide to Baby's First Year by Erin MacPherson is about everything that you need to know as your first year as a mom. The book covers topics including: postpartum healing, hormones and emotions, how to care for your baby, helping baby sleep, breast feeding and bottle feeding, diapering, baby gear needed, and medical help. It also addresses: having fun with baby, leaving the house with baby, feeding your baby real food, creating time for mom, losing baby weight, what dad needs to know about baby, and staying close with dad.

I found this book to be very helpful. The author provides loads of practical advice and has a really good grasp on what being a great mom looks like. The author aims to make a new mom's life easier and more enjoyable during her first year together with her baby. I really enjoyed the section that included dad as well. Moreover, the author adds a spiritual aspect and encourages her readers to be godly women. Also, I really enjoyed the writing style of this book. It was informative, but also a fun and easy read. The author writes as if she is talking to you as a close friend. Overall, I would recommend it to any new mom who is seeking advice.

The best way I can think to describe The Christian Mama's Guide to Baby's First Year is "refreshing." It's candid and helpful with an ample dose of self-deprecating humor thrown in for good measure.

There are a lot of books on parenting babies. Most of them are jam-packed with far more information than a new mommy's brain can reasonably process. Yet, they are all helpful in their own way. The WTE series is great for developmental information. Baby 411 is great for FAQ-type information. The Christian Mama's Guide is more like "baby book lite" — it's filled with great information but doesn't overwhelm the reader with too many facts or opinions about the "right" way to do everything (hint: there is no "right" way).

I absolutely loved the author's stance on breast vs. bottle. It was so refreshing/validating/encouraging to finally read a book that said, "Yes, breast is best, but you know what? Bottle feeding is perfectly fine too!"

While "enjoyed" is probably not the correct term, I also liked the section on postpartum recovery. I found it to be more honest and informative than most other accounts I've read. I would have appreciated reading that before my baby was born. No one tells you about that, probably because it's not fun and most women try to forget about it as soon as humanly possible. (Not difficult with mommy brain, trust me.)

This book was laugh-out-loud funny in parts. I felt a sense of camaraderie with the author as I read scenarios and thought, "been there, done that!" I found the bit about a baby's inability not to pee whilst on the pediatrician's weight scale to be particularly funny.

The only piece of advice in the book I did not agree with was, "Sleep when baby sleeps." I found that to be almost impossible and have had other mom friends say the same thing. Better advice: Ask dad/grandma/friend/neighbor to take over baby duty for an hour or two so you can get a quality nap.

This was a Christian book, but I didn't find it to be overpowering. It's not a Bible-based parenting book like you might expect to find on Michelle Duggar's nightstand. I liked the author's recommendations of a few Christian baby books and I also liked some of the Bible passages that she included.

Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed this book and would definitely recommend it to a new mom.

I received a copy of this book from Booksneeze in exchange for an honest review.

A few weeks ago when I reviewed The Christian Mama's Guide To Parenting A Toddler by Erin MacPherson, and I enjoyed it so much that I ordered The Christian Mama's Guide To Baby's First Year next.

I enjoyed this book just as much as the other one I read in this series! MacPherson covers everything from breastfeeding to baby gear to losing the baby weight, and she does it in a fun and relatable way. I agreed with so much of what she says in this book, and Derek kept asking me what I was laughing at while I was reading - and I was usually laughing at myself, because I've thought so many of the things that Macpherson says in the book!

I've been enjoying these books because I've found them to be so encouraging. They're a good reminder that motherhood is hard sometimes, and it's not going to look perfect, and that's okay - you are still a good mom. And you are in good company. That's something I need to hear (or read) sometimes when there are toys and piles of clothes scattered everywhere, the dog is barking, the baby's crying, and the toddler is getting Nutella all over the furniture. It's normal, and it's precious. And let's face it, it's funny. Being reminded to laugh and enjoy it is priceless.

Note: I received this book for free from Booksneeze in exchange for this review. This is my honest opinion.

Erin MacPherson's did a wonderful job of taking the new and tossing in some mother advice. She helps with how you feel after you give birth, problems and issues of everything from nursing to colic. But what I love the most is her spiritual encouragement to young moms. In the end it is her goal to raise kids who have Christ centered in their lives.

This would make a wonderful gift to new moms and dated Grandmothers~ :)
