Located in: Montgomery AL Submitted: November 26, 2003 Tell us a little about yourself. I have been married for over 20 years to an Air Force pilot. I have 3 children, ages 11 to 16. I've been homeschooling for about 5 years. My hobbies seem to be rather limited at this stage of my life, but nonetheless include singing, writing another book in the series, cooking and decorating. I love taking a blah room and making it warm and inviting. Hokey, I know, but true! What was your motivation behind this project? To begin with, it was simply producing things for my own children. I was making them worksheets to use with another (secular) book. I was encouraged to publish them, but found that I couldn't, in good conscience, encourage others to use the secular books I had used due to the whole evolution assumption. Thus, though I NEVER expected it, I found my self actually writing lessons. I now fully and wholeheartedly believe God's purpose in me doing this book was much more about exalting Him as Creator than teaching science. What do you hope folks will gain from this project? A love of teaching science. A confidence in God's ability to manage their homeschool. More time! Mostly, though, encouragement in teaching their children how to be discerning in their studies, building a Christ honoring worldview. Who are your influences, sources of inspiration or favorite authors / artists? Obviously, Christ and The Bible. Everything we do and study should be filtered through God's Word. In this particular project, Dr. Jay Wile was a huge inspiration. By that I mean, by way of a seminar he convinced me that it was possible to successfully teach science in the homeschool environment. He also showed me that science could be fun, a truly novel idea to me at the time! This was several years ago now, and time has proven he was right. On a personal note, I enjoy reading books that encourage me as I strive to live according to the standards laid out in The Bible. I read and study works authored by Kay Arthur and Beth Moore. Musically, I love Travis Cottrell and the Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir. My current favorite song is "What Wondrous Love is This" by Travis Cottrell. Anything else you'd like readers / listeners to know: I am not a scientist or expert! I endeavored to be accurate in my work and had experts review my work to keep it sound for your children. This book is geared to help you keep your children interested in science and to help you manage your time, which I know is always in short supply for moms and dads. Homeschooling, for me, has absolutely been one of the most rewarding endeavors of my life. I'd like any parent reading this to be encouraged. Though it is hard, it is worth it! Find Related Products
