Depending on whom you ask, the term Christian counseling can mean anything from secular psychology practiced by a Christian to biblical counseling that completely shuns psychological insights. Christ-Centered Therapy thoroughly integrates psychology and practical theology. A book written by experts from both fields, it utilizes the contributions of science in an uncompromisingly biblical framework. Here at last is a powerful resource to help youpastor, counselor, or spiritual advisorunderstand the complex problems of people and address them with the wisdom of Gods Word and the power of his Spirit. Insightful and practical, Christ-Centered Therapy unites the wisdom and expertise of pastoral theologian and best-selling author Dr. Neil Anderson and professional Christian counselors Dr. Terry and Julianne Zuehlke. The first part of the book equips you with an understanding of the different issues involved in integrating theology and psychology. The second part helps you turn theory into practical application. Youll also find appendixes that offer personal testimonies, provide professional forms, discuss the role of psychiatry in managed care, and present the Steps to Freedom in Christ.
Jay B5 Stars Out Of 5December 29, 2007Jay BCertainly a textbook style rendition of Biblical counseling. It shows the most important arguments of Psychological intervention with Christian counsel. I found it to be a very informative read regarding this difficult area of specialty. I would state that this book integrates the "Freedom in Christ ministries", which may show a bias to counselors in the field. It is still very helpful for a person that is seeking specific care in this area. It will arm you with some questions for your Psychologist. It probably will never become a best seller due to the specific format, but it is essential for the libraries of educators and concerned laypersons. You will understand the different philosophies that are currently available in today's world. This is what the book was certainly written for. Neil presents the important integration of psychology with Biblical reference. That is very evident. If this is not your profession, you will still gain some important knowledge that is so difficult to find anywhere.
Roger Walker5 Stars Out Of 5December 26, 2007Roger WalkerThis is an excellent and balanced text.I can see the benefit of the bible-based counselor, at any clinical level--needing a text such as this. This fills a void.It is bible-based and true the the contextual meaning of Scripture. Many attempts are too steeped in psychological theory--or are well informed, theologically (with little or no clinical insight). This text is a refreshing combination!Balanced--I should think, is the operative word. A balanced bibical world-veiw, and understanding of human nature--and applied biblcal principles are the mission and thurst of this text. Well done.
