The Chocolate Diaries: Secrets for a Sweeter Journey on the Rocky Road of Life
I found this chocolate lacking
I thought the book had a great premise and enjoyed the antedotes and chocolate references. While the author had seemed to experienced some difficult times and wanted to guide her children well, I found her biblical basis and references lacking. She seemed to quote others when she made a biblical point, so she didn't have to be the one to say something "religious" and instead it was made by someone else. Want a book with guiding stories from real life? Then read this, but if you're looking for a biblical basis and backing for her advice then you'll find this chocolate lacking as I did.

A Sweet Read!
The Chocolate Diaries - Secrets for a Sweeter Journey on the Rocky Road of Life.
I enjoyed reading this faith-based, positive and uplifting book. Karen Scalf Linamen takes personal experiences and compiles them in to 15 stories of women's journeys through life - the good and the bad. I enjoyed how the author compares these trials and events in life to chocolate. The book also includes recipes for some sweet treats. This book is like sitting down with a girlfriend for a cup of coffee.
I received this book for free from WaterBrook Multnomah Publishing Group for this review.

Refreshing and Delightful
I'll be honest: sometimes I hear stories of the things that other women have gone through or are currently facing, and I feel ashamed at how relatively good my life has been. Any bumps on the road of my life have been minor, simply irritating pebbles compared with the boulders that other women find themselves crashed against. Because of that, I don't really know how to relate to someone who is facing something life-changing, like divorce, serious illness or abuse. But the one thing I have going for me in that department is I like to read, and I've read this book.
Karen Scalf Linamen has hilariously pulled together stories from dozens of women who have tested and approved strategies for embracing a sweeter life--even while traveling rocky roads. This book is chock full of joy, reasons to laugh, ideas to help you heal and reliable hop leading to a sweeter future. It is also riddled with recipes to help you find ways to indulge in a little chocolate every day.
Ms. Linamen is the kind of writer that makes you feel like you've made a new friend. She expertly weaves in stories from her life that lend to the book's authenticity. Her advice is sound and her humor is refreshing. I may not know quite what to say to someone who is going through a rough time, but I could point them to this book. I think it could be a ray of sunshine on what else would be a dark, lonely path.
This book was sent to me by WaterBrook Press in exchange for an honest review, as a part of their Blogging for Books program.

Inspirational and Delicious!
From the first chapter, "Nobody Knows the Truffles I've Seen," I was hooked. Karen Linamen shares personal stories and the experiences of friends in a humorous way that made me want to keep reading.
The author's stories and scripture are encouraging and inspirational. One of my favorite chapters was on 'thought toxins.' You know, the negative thoughts that pop up, wasting our time and causing us stress. The author shares emotional 'pick-me-ups' sprinkled with a few great chocolate recipes sent in by her readers.
You'll find plenty of concrete suggestions in this book, but it's much more than just "how to." Each chapter ends with "Food for Thought," questions to help you further examine each topic as it applies to your life.
I finished this book feeling entertained and empowered to make simple changes in my life which will, as the title says, sweeten the journey.
I also immediately went to my cupboard to find the ingredients to make the Three minute Chocolate Cake in a Mug, from page 139!
