Mr. Hamilton Beckett, much to his chagrin, is the catch of the season, and all the eyes of New York society--all the female ones, at least--are on him. He has no plans to marry again, especially since his hands are full keeping his business afloat while raising his two children alone.
Eliza's hapless attempts to regain her fortune unexpectedly put her right in Hamilton's path. The discovery of a common nemesis causes them to join forces and, before she knows it, Eliza has a whole retinue of people helping her. Eliza's determination not to trust anyone weakens when everyone's antics and bumbling efforts to assist her make her wonder if there might be more important things than her fortune and independence. When all of Hamilton's and Eliza's best-laid plans fall by the wayside, it will take a riot of complications for them to realize that God just might have had a better plan in mind all along.

"Set in New York City circa 1880, Turano's historical romance has witty dialogue, a spunky heroine, a bounty of humor, and a fast-paced plot. There are wonderful secondary characters, too, including an ankle-biting boy, a relentlessly matchmaking mother, and a full cast of despicable villains. A Change of Fortune will make a delightful addition to any library." --Booklist (starred review)
"Turano's charming story of losing and gaining both wealth and love in 1880s New York City will certainly please fans of witty and classic romance stories."--RT Book Review
"[A] delightfully lighthearted debut novel."--Desert News

Their fates would soon be intertwined with those of Mr. Hamilton Beckett and his brother Zayne. The mysteries would begin overlapping leading their searches in similar directions. Will these cases bring them closer together or have their pasts made it so they truly can trust no one and only hinder each other?
Delightful read! I am thankful that this book is part of a series, because I cannot wait to read her next book. Gentleman of Her Dreams (the novella that starts this series) gives an amazing insight into this world and brings us into the opening of this book. This book dives right in and sets a fast pace right from the start. It is full of wit a charm with strong characters and a plot that does not disappoint.

Sue634 Stars Out Of 5A delightful rompDecember 20, 2015Sue63Quality: 4Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5I'll admit I picked up this book at a bargain price and didn't have grand expectations - but the back cover description sounded like the type of lighthearted Regency-type romance I usually enjoy, with a spiritual dimension that I look for in a good read. I curled up with this book while at home sick with a cold and so enjoyed it: a feisty heroine (and her even more independent friend), a dashing hero (with his own foibles), villains with some depth, a great setting (New York 1880), adorable children (each with their own distinct personalities).. I could go on and on. The story was perhaps a little predictable (if you've read a few Regencies and I have), but the descriptions, the characterizations, and the twists and turns of the lively plot kept me very entertained. I discovered I have read at least one other Jen Turano novel (this being her first with Bethany House) and will now seek out others. Do yourself a favor and pick it up when you see it - I highly recommend A CHANGE OF FORTUNE by Jen Turano.
Emily4 Stars Out Of 5Surprisingly enjoyable!November 7, 2015EmilyQuality: 4Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5I know, that my title, 'Surprisingly enjoyable!' does not do a lot to bolster confidence in finding a good read, but... Hey, it's truthful. I wasn't looking for an 1800s period piece, which was good because outside of horse-drawn transportation issues and status-based seating charts, this story isn't very 1880s. The characters' approach toward life would have little trouble fitting into a contemporary-timed novel. For me, that was a good thing because when if comes to fiction, I like books that will either play a romantic comedy movie in my head or transport me to another place, not dark thrillers or heart-wrenching, angst-filled love stories.
"A Change of Fortune" does a wonderful job delivering romantic comedy. The reader gets to laugh at obstacles and frustration rather than getting sucked into them.

She comes from a aristocrat lifestyle in England and lands in New York taking a job as a governess as she needs to support herself. Why she is in New York and her mission there is a funny, romantic love story. The characters in this novel are witty, enjoyable, and at times down right funny.
