The Mess Detectives and The Case of the Lost Temper is one of the many titles from Zonderkidz in the I Can Read Book series. My three and a half year old son and six year old daughter are quite the Veggie Tale fans and liked this story. I was excited about this title because my daughter has been reading much more this Summer and my aim has been to have character building and Christ centered books around that we could read together or all on her very own. The Veggie Tales whether books or the movies never seem to disappoint in teaching about God's love and how to apply the taught truths to our own lives.

In this story children will learn all about losing their tempers in case about the Masked Door Slammer! Featured in the story are characters Bob the Tomato, Larry the Cucumber, and even Laura the Carrot makes and appearance. At the beginning and the end of the story the Bible verse Proverbs 29:11 is featured. I like the the Bible verse is in both places as to serve as an introduction and a reminder of what to take away from the story. The story is full of all the silliness I expected but the point about getting upset and losing our temper at times is covered in a way a child can understand quite well.

There are 32 pages in this paperback title. The illustrations fully cover the story on each page. Larry narrates to the readers. My son really liked the mystery and detective theme to the story. My daughter was able to read this book on her own quite well. She'll be starting first grade this Fall. The book is on the beginning reading level which features short sentences, familiar words, and simple concepts that are easy for kids to comprehend on their own. She had no trouble at all with this book and I'm excited to soon introduce her to the next level up in the I Can Read Book series.

We are are big Veggie Tale fans and were not at all disappointed! It's good title to pick up if you are fans of the series or if you are aiming to reach a child that perhaps has some trouble in controlling their temper when things aren't always going as planned. I would recommend this reader for both boys and girls!
