1 Stars Out Of 5

I really wanted to like this book, and up until almost the last page I did. Unfortunately, the line " ... open presents ahead of time, that means the real joy in Christmas will disappear," was so disappointing to me that I can not recommend it.
I read this to a group of school age daycare kids and they also really liked the story and illustrations, but after that stinker of a message I spent the next 10 minutes talking about how the true joy of Christmas (the saving grace of Jesus Christ!) can never disappear. It actually made for some good discussion, but I was terribly disappointed that this was the message this book wanted to send. It could have really ended well, with a TRUE and accurate message about Christmas, but it just came off as another secular "feel good" kind of book with no truth to speak to the heart.
Gov. Huckabee missed a wonderful opportunity with this story.
