We all recognize that what we believe about economics also reflects about how we think about God, society, and one another. Calvin recognized this as well. Yet, he unlike his predecessors was able to articulate economic ideas in an astonishingly clear way, and by doing so, many argue, led to the economic revolution in Europe, and by extension in the West and the entire world.

Calvin wa the first theologian/clergyman to through off many of the basic teachings about money and industry in favor of a view that gathered all of life under one's Christianity and in doing so was able to teach and encourage industry, frugality, personal responsibility, and stewardship. This applied to all, and the results are plain.

Calvin saw the value, and the continuing endurance of both saving and of making a profit. He understood these endeavors as benefits to society, not detriments. He also recognized that hoarding and greed were not the basis of the market system, but were rather a threat to it-a threat other economic systems sacrifice personal freedom and responsibility in order to discourage.
