Publisher's Description

Three dire circumstances. Three desperate prayers. One miracle to save them all.

Callie Stillman is drawn to the evasive girl who's befriended her granddaughter, but the last time Callie tried to help a child, her efforts backfired. Memories of the tiny coffin still haunt her.

Samantha and Iris Evans should be worried about homework, not whether they can pool enough cash to survive another week of caring for an infant while evading the authorities.

Steve Evans wants a second chance at fatherhood, but his children are missing. And no one seems to want to help the former addict who deserted his family.

For Steve to regain the relationship he abandoned, for his girls to receive the care they deserve, Callie must surrender her fear and rely on God to work the miracle they all need.

Callie by Sharon Srock is the first book in the Women of Valley View Series. I absolutely love the way Ms. Srock makes the characters in these books come to life. This is the third of her books that I have read and I was not disappointed at all.

Callie has a heart of gold and a desire to help people, but she put her heart on the line and got it broken so deeply that she cannot face being vulnerable again. The problem is, Callie also loves the Lord more than anything. When she feels prompted to help a little girl in her Sunday school class, she has trouble explaining to God why she cant get involved.

Iris and Sam have a secret that is so precious it must be guarded with extreme care. In a world where everything good is only temporary, they have learned to survive and trust no one. But keeping their secret is also wearing them both out and the constant struggles are exhausting.

Sam has done all she had to do to survive. Shes been wounded one too many times and knows just how dangerous it can be to get involved with people who can destroy your life. She has a goal in mind and shes determined to reach it. When the one person she never expected to return appears in her life, Sam pushes back with all her strength. She must decide if she believes in the forgiveness of Jesus.

Iris has never really had the luxury of being a kid but shes safe with Sam and thats all that matters. Every once in a while, Iris would like to be a kid and not have to keep her life so secretive. She knows what it means to be responsible and to take care of family. The weight of the world is heavy on her shoulders though and when she faces a situation she doesnt know how to deal with Iris must learn to trust.

In one of my favorite quotes in the book, Callie is talking about God to Sam. She says, You know, theres a song we sing at church about God being holy. Well, Ive found that He is also w-h-o-l-l-y. Hes wholly everything I need in my life. Will you accept my invitation to church tomorrow? Give yourself a chance to hear about Gods love firsthand? (pg. 186, pdf version).

Ms. Srock does such a phenomenal job of weaving the story of Callie, Iris and Sam. This book is heart wrenching and there was more than one time that tears came to my eyes. I didnt want the book to end! With wonderful storytelling ability, Ms. Srock shows what Christian love looks like in real life situations. Callie is a must read!

I received this book from the author in exchange for my review.

    Callie, by Sharon Srock

I finished reading Callie. Callie was quite a giving lady who loved the Lord and was led by the Lord usually easier than most Christians. She ran into a situation that ended in a tragedy which was not her fault, but she took the guilt on herself and almost ruined her life. As time went on she came across another new situation and tried to pass it on to others, but somehow the Lord wouldnt let her. Her last experience of the tragedy weighed on her and that was the only reason she tried to pass it on to someone else. It was a wonderful story, full of so much life experiences for Samantha, Bobbie, Iris, and Steve Evans. Terri and Pam were individuals also a real part of this story. All I will share here as I dont want to ruin the book for anyone. I highly recommend you reading it. I know you will enjoy it. There is so much to learn and inspire us also.

Sharon Srock's Women of the Valley series is wonderful series full of very real and touching characters. This is the second book which I have read in the series. While each can be read as stand alone, once you begin as a reader you will want to read all of the series.

Callie is a Grandmother who is recovering from a tragedy which she feels that she helped to perpetuate. Feeling God's calling to help another young family, Callie resists. She does not want another calamity to hurt either her or the people involved. However, the feeling that God is pulling her to help becomes too strong. Against her better judgment, she helps Sam, Iris, and Bobbie. With the strong faith of her husband and friends, Callie discovers just what Sam, Iris and Bobbie need. Protecting the children and bringing a heartbroken family back together, helps to heal all of those involved.

I found myself staying up to finish this novel. One can relate to the problems and the feelings of all of the characters within the books. Callie is afraid. Sam is skeptical. Iris is lost. Bobbie is innocent. But all of these characters appear real and the situation in which they find themselves could be a real life occurrence. I loved how Callie's close circle of friends rallied around her and the girls. They supported one another through everything. Friends such as these can be hard to find. I would highly recommend this series to any reader. But watch out, once you begin, you may not be able to stop reading!!

I just finished reading WOMAN OF VALLEY VIEW: CALLIE by Sharon Srock. The author did a great job developing believable Christian characters with real-life problems and relationships. No pat answers, no easy solutions in this work of contemporary women's fiction. The characters had to work hard and pray long through their issues. The author used conflict and tension to move the story along at a pace which made it difficult to put the book down. Being a married baby boomer myself, I especially appreciated how she portrayed the protagonist Callie's marriage to Benton. Still sizzling! And it made me want to read TERRI, the next book in the WOMAN OF VALLEY VIEW series.

In her soul-stirring debut novel Sharon Srock introduces us to the women of Valley View Church. Callie Stillman is haunted by the sight of a small casket being lowered into the ground. She still believes it is her fault that eighteen month old Sawyer is dead. Because of the pain of things that went wrong Callie is determined to never again go out of her comfort zone to help anyone.

When April, Callie's granddaughter brings a new friend to church, Callie feels a tug on her heart that something is not quite right with the little girl. She seems too quiet and withdrawn for an eleven year old. Callie starts to argue with God that she is not going to get involved, the most she'll do is make a few inquiries and then let someone else step in if she finds out the child needs help. When Callie tries to get answers from Iris the poor child breaks down to cry but won't share the reason. Will Callie do something she has vowed not to do_.get involved?

Samantha 17 and Iris 11 have had to endure too much in their short lives. First it was the abandonment of their father and then the death of their mother and now if the wrong people were to find out about their situation more trouble could hit them. When Iris has a desperate situation to come up she takes a chance and calls Callie. Will Callie reach out to the girls or will she let her fears keep her from being the friend these girls need?

Sharon Srock is a very talented writer that has woven a story of betrayal, forgiveness and learning to trust God utterly and completely. This storyline was so compelling I was hooked from the very start. I can't wait to be introduced to Callie's friend Terri in Sharon's next installment of The Women of Valley View.
