When a marriage is forced upon this hapless pair - two people who couldn't dislike each other more - an avalanche isn't the only potential danger lurking amid the shadows of Calico Canyon. Will they make it out alive? Or end up killing each other in the process? Author BioMary Connealy writes romantic comedy with cowboys. She is a Christy Award finalist and a Carol Award winner. She is the author of the Lassoed in Texas Trilogy, the Montana Marriage Trilogy, and the Sophie's Daughters Series. Mary lives on a Nebraska ranch with her husband, Ivan, and has four grown daughters: Joslyn (married to Matt), Wendy, Shelly (married to Aaron), and Katy. And she is the grandmother of two beautiful grandchildren. ChristianBookPreviewsMary Connealys novel Calico Canyon is a story about fear finding victory through acts of courage.
In a series of bizarre events, along with a heavy snowfall, seventeen-year-old Grace Calhoun finds herself fired from her school teaching job, running from her past, accidentally married to stubborn Daniel Reeves, and a new stepmother to five rowdy sons. Trapped together for the winter at the 6R, Daniel and Grace cant understanding each other because of their own deep seated pride and prejudices against each other. Happy that she has escaped her abusive adopted father and horrified with the manners of her new family, Grace wrestles with how to fit in when she feels unwanted and unneeded. Daniel, other the other hand, doesnt know what to do with his new prim and proper wife who cant cook but seems proficient only in correcting their poor grammar. Although slow in the first few chapters, the plot picks up speed and provides the reader with a mix of intense bursts of action and times of reflection as Grace, Daniel, and the boys individually find Gods love and faithfulness when least expecting it. When an avalanche traps Grace and one of her sons in a cave, she finds the courage she had lost so long ago as she learns to trust in the faithfulness of God found in Lamentations 3:22-23. After the avalanche, Daniel finds himself battling desires for Grace and feelings of guilt over his first wifes death during childbirth. Grace, on the other hand, is still a naïve young woman who cant understand Daniels behavior. With surprisingly humorous twists along with fear-filled moments, readers will enjoy watching a difficult and stubborn man find his heart and a scared school teacher hiding behind proper manners find her courage. Because of mature gender-related subjects, this romantic comedy is recommended for an adult audience. -- Laurie Filson, www.ChristianBookPreviews.com Product ReviewsProduct Q&AOther Customers Also PurchasedFind Related ProductsAuthor/Artist Review |
