Tell us a little about yourself.  I grew up in Winnipeg, Manitoba, the literal coldest city in the world (over 500,000 people). My background is Mennonite, and my family has an astonishing, "Schindler's List" type saga of which I am proud and humbled by. I went to Moody Bible Institute in Sweet Home Chicago, and I LOVE that city with all my heart. I'm a hockey-freak, totally! My boys--Jonah, 4 and Ezra,1--keep me running all day, and give their mommy lots of love and excuses to pray. I married a rugged outdoorsman, Doyle, and we have fun figuring out the country boy-city girl thing!

What was your motivation behind this project?  I had written my baby name book, "A is for Adam," and was thinking and praying about what to do next. Then one day at the beach, it came to me: write a fun, hip, tip-filled book on pregnancy, something unlike anything that's on CBA shelves right now. The whole enchilada came to me pretty much fully baked, so I know the Lord cooked this one up for me.

What do you hope folks will gain from this project?  I hope pregnant women of faith (and hopefully their unchurched counterparts) will get a new grip on all the highs and lows, the kookiness and stone cold serious stuff that goes with carrying a baby. I pray my readers will learn a lot of "take-it-to-the-bank" info, but also be led into a deeper relationship with the One who gave them this gift of life. I hope they laugh long and hard, and enjoy this fleeting, intense time of life!

Who are your influences, sources of inspiration or favorite authors / artists?  I'm a fiction fanatic, so it's intriguing to me that God has led my writing career down a non- fiction path--for now! Jan Karon, Maeve Binchy, and Anita Shreve are faves. I love the historical framework of Francine Rivers'"Mark of the Lion" series, and the grit and grace of anything Lynn Austin has written. Right now I'm deep into a new book called "Too Pagan, Too Christian," by Dick Staub. Amy Grant, Carolyn Arends, Rich Mullins, and the new rock worship stuff, like "City on a Hill," all float my boat, musically.

Anything else you'd like readers / listeners to know:  I'm a freelance entertainment writer, which means I have had the fascinating opportunity to interview/pick the brains of many pop culture news makers, from top figure skaters to Diana Krall to Barry Manilow. One of the goals for my existence is to live a salty, light-filled life in our culture, not hiding from it.
